Hi folks. This is my first post here and i must say that the world is on fire about this project :thmbsp:. I have one question about EWG compression drivers...
Is there any compression driver that has non-metal membrane and in the same time compatible with Pyle PH612 waveguide and meets the demands about whole WG sound philosophy???
I do appreciate the linearity of Selenium d220ti, but i prefer non-metal membranes in compression drivers because of their sound character.

Go with EWave Deluxe, it uses a B&C DE250 compression driver which has a polyimide diaphragm (type of plastic) and sounds great. First post for index with links to that. However, it uses a different (and cheaper) waveguide from QSC.

What would be the best 15" woofer for an E-wave PA project something higher quality than the new Dayton pro drivers.
Budget is maybe $150-200 per driver. I had previously considered the Eminence Kappa Pro-LF-2 15" cast frame driver but I was told it wouldn't work well trying to get up to the 1.8k crossover point.

I've ordered Eminence DeltaLite II 2512 (95 euros here) a week ago and i intend to put it in the 4.6 ft3 tuned to 38 Hz. I was going to order the QSC WG but it is little hard to find here in Serbia. I already had Pyle PH612 WG lying around and i just wanted to test it with some poliymide/mylar or anything that it is not metal, membrane... I thought that somebody has done this already but OK no biggie.

Same as with it, essentially. The driver and L-pad are both 8 Ohms. When the L-pad is set to "Max," it's basically out of the circuit. I have never measured the impedance of the HF section alone that way; if you're thinking tubes, see the link on the System Summary page. :yes:
The Barzilays have made some of the nicest eWave projects built to date.... :thmbsp:

Celestion i can obtain much more easily than B&C/QSC combo. B&C from Italy, and QSC from Germany... Anyway it looks pretty good on 90x40 exponential horn...

I can't say it is the best but it has no problem going high enough or loud enough, but really doesn't go low enough to get by without a sub (for home theater anyway). The Deltalite II 2515 looks fine for a few $ less.

Actually there are much more EWG than you or even i know out here. Not all of the people who build EWG are on the forum. The dealer sold more than 200 peaces of d220ti in just few months in my town as far as i know. He told me about a guy who bought d220ti to mate it with some Altec 15" midbass.
I've listened to some wooden horns before i decided to go the AK EWG way. Here they are...
EWG is much more cheaper than this but the concept is the same. Liked the sound and i decided to go for it...
Hot off the workbench, Advent-based Econo-Waves in custom Baltic birch cabinets with mahogany veneer. I like! I will be searching for the sweet spot, experimenting with stuffing, playing with the LPAD, swapping around some gear, and rearranging my room such as I'm able, but just dropping them in the corner and hooking them up, the project is totally worth it, even with the extra cost of custom cabinets. Thanks Zilch and everyone!
Those are absolutely stunning looking. The choice of the "vintage" cloth for the grilles mated with the more "modern" tower style, is quite a visually appealing juxtaposition.
How tall are those? Looks like about 3 and a half feet or so? Should have good soundstaging, with the horn up at that height.

With the footers the top is about 45" off the floor, and center of the compression driver is at about 40.5", which is about where I think my ear is when seated in that room.
That fabric is actually plastic and I'm finding it hard to work with. It wants to unfold and lay flat and in some areas it's not hugging the grill as tightly as I'd like. I think I'll be searching out some fabric fabric with a similar look.

DE250 with the Selenium throat adapter did NOT work well, as may be seen in Brandon's DriverVault measurements, as I confirmed earlier in this thread, which is how we learned that, in detail, the JBL and Pyle are not exactly the same....

Do you have any recommendations for Celestion CDX1-1731/Pyle-PH612 combo crossover ? Should i begin with something similar to d220ti crossover and then adjust it for this setup or you have something else on mind that would work with it properly ???

The biggest problem with Bose 501 is the extreme shortness (in height) of the cabinet. You'd want to raise them on pedestals, at least another 8 inches or so, if not a foot, to get the woofer up to where it can be somewhere near on-axis with you, in a normal listening position.
If Bose 501s were mine to tinker with, I'd maybe build up a riser base, out of like, 1x12 lumber, MDF or plywood, with a new bottom plate (to seal up the bottom of the riser). Then, cut out the bottom of the original 501 cabinet, and seal the new riser base to the bottom. The additional cabinet volume will help for more bass extension, and reduce the "tubbyness" of the woofer. It should work fine as an Ewave bass section at that point. Though, it may be easier to just find a pair of derelict cabinets that can handle a 10" woofer and the Ewave horn; the Bose 501 woofer is decent, and can be used in a cabinet of around 2 to 2.5 cubic feet, to good result.
