You won't be disappointed Max. I first built mine with junk crossovers just for a test and really liked them. So then I got the Zilch boards and stock parts from Parts Express and now they sound REALLY good. I've not heard the Trap cabs but I have the DC300 in my barrel speakers and they are a great woof.
 
Has anybody in Canada been able to order online from QSC? I can't get it to accept postal code and province but the shipping calculator asks for it.

I got two emails right after ordering Friday, (1)an autobot "out of office until sept 8th", and an other (2) autobot saying it would take two to three days while processing to ship IF they are in stock and expect another email IF backordered. So I was not really expecting much until today's email with fedex tracking #. ..:banana:

I'm looking forward to getting them done. May be a little while as we have been busy lately. I have the wave guides and CDs as I've been playing with them sitting on top of my L100t's using the JBL woofer. Tried Jack's crossover for that woofer and biamping with a DBX 223. Just couldn't get the lower mids. Male vocals faded into the back ground. Decided to go with a complete proven build and will order the trap cabs as I haven't been able to come up with some donors.

On a side note, I've been watching your open baffle project. I have a spare pair of 901s. That's 18 full range drivers. Hmmmm..?

IIRC, the 901s came with an EQ box. It boosted the high and low. Don't know how they would work without it.

Weird, I just opened up my front door and there is a HUGE box sitting there. Huh! Oh yeah, waveguides! Never heard from QSC after all...
They shipped quick and cheap! Only $12 for shipping and it came in a NICE 24"x16"x16" double wall u-line box that I will reuse.
Pictures tomorrow.

QSC wont ship to Canada.

Youll have to find someone that sells QSC speakers around you and give them the part number and ask them how much they can get them for. Around here it was like 25 from a local dude. Or you can email these guys and get them from them.

I wouldn't be embarrassed having the whole neighborhood hear them, which they could surely do.

These have undamped titanium diaphragms, so Deluxe is smoother.

[They are mighty nice with 2452H-SL in them, tho.... :tongue: ]
 
Couple of maybe stupid questions.

How are people rear mounting the woofer? Just with wood screws that don't go all the way through the baffle?

Has anyone stained the trap cabinet? If so how did it look when finished?

That's what I'm doing with the prototypes, but mostly for expedience. You can see them poking through in many of the pics.

Vintage designs often used T-nuts from the front, not caring if they were ugly because they always had grilles. Seems it'd be easy to recess them and plug the counterbores, if the baffle is thick enough.

Hurricane nuts in blind holes from the rear works for some; set in epoxy seems the preferred method of having them be secure.

Through-bolting from the front works, of course, but the screw heads are visible.

As soon as a desire to round over the opening enters the picture, these options are subverted. There's a way to do that except in the bolt locations, if you don't mind the aesthetic.

Clamps from the rear is the probable approach I will use; that puts the attachment outside the roundover diameter, and the clamps can attach to glued blocks on the rear without penetrating the baffle.

Another option I've illustrated is a speaker ring on the rear with the driver recessed in a larger baffle opening. That works nicely mounting 10" drivers in the stock KD trap cab, screwed in from the front. I split a ring to do that in the oversize cutout of large Advent here:

That approach could include a roundover, and/or a deeper mounting using a thicker "flush mount" speaker ring with recess. Those are sold on eBay for car audio installers, if we're not up to fabricating them ourselves. Search "Speaker rings" there; eight pages of listings right now.... :thmbsp:

I plan to line the recess with F-13 felt when it arrives in a few days, out to a point = to half of the surround width, ~1/2"...we'll see, er, ah hear, maybe :scratch2:

If I were starting my project now, I'd opt for speaker rings...might still retrofit them. :scratch2: X 2
