Good jobs Nick and Gain. Both great looking (and I am certain) sounding speakers. As for you Uroford: 12245 others have to build eWaves befor you get that number.
 
No, they're working, I just continue tweaking them. When I'm satisfied I'll take a picture set up and we'll make it official.
 
I've got the ewave standards done in re-purposed Crate PA cabs, the bass is a little thin so I'm going to play with the dampening (looks like I could use a bit). They also have a single rear firing 3" port 9" long in a calculated 2.03 cu. ft. box (before drivers) and I'm wondering if I should try plugging it and going front firing? They do sound great other than that and the bass does kick up a notch at higher volumes, all in a less than ideal placement. Time to start tuning and listening, and maybe some measuring if I can scare up a mic and my son brings home his emu computer interface from college. I'll have plenty of questions as I transition to a higher level with a JBL 2206 and the QSC waveguide on a CD yet to be chosen.

Yeah, three pieces of R-19 made a big difference, just tweaking the port length up and down now and A-B'ng them. Really need to measure though...:yes:
 
Well, I've been listening to the Peav-e-Waves, and something still didn't sound quite right to me. The speakers were too "tubby" sounding with my STA-82. I took out my late 80s JVC rack system integrated amp, which I had previously taken out of service because it sounded like it had no bass compared to the Realistic. Hooked it up to the PEWs, and like magic, glorious sound comes out! I have it playing right now, and the speakers sound even better than they did before. Maybe it's just the extra headroom; this amp puts out 120 watts per channel as opposed to the Realistic's 22 wpc. Who knew a rack system receiver could sound this nice? I'm also going to try my Pioneer SA-6500 II and SA-7500 II and see how those sound. Just trying to get the best possible sound out of my new speakers. :thmbsp:

UPDATE: Ended up sticking with the JVC. The SA-6500 II really amplifies turntable rumble (or warped record effect?) and causes the speaker cones to bounce around at a very low frequency once per revolution. The SA-7500 II (that I just got) seems to have a burned-up left channel. The 6500 actually sounded really nice, but the rumble was going to be a problem, so it's doing computer duty. The STA-82 and 7500 are off-duty right now. I also have an 8-watt tube amp (EL84 I think) that my friend is borrowing, but I'll probably ask to have it back so I can try the Peav-e-Waves with tubes. If he tells me he needs an amp, I'll let him borrow the Realistic instead. :D

But for now, the JVC is sounding great! It actually seems to DECREASE record noise like pops and crackles. Maybe it has Proprietary Super Digital Active Vinyl Noise Reduction :scratch2: :tresbon:

UPDATE #2: I just wanted to say that when I heard "Scarborough Fair" by Simon and Garfunkel on these speakers, I was floored. I have never heard better musical reproduction. Ever. Thinking of that Bose Wave ad that says, "the Wave can easily replace whatever component system you currently have" just makes me want to laugh. I'd really like to see it try!

VERDICT: The Econo-Waveguide speaker is a real winner. Thank you Zilch, Jackgiff, and all of AK; you have opened a door to new levels of high-fidelity. :music:

High-Fidelity Uniform-Directivity Loudspeakers Whitepaper

I've written a whitepaper on waveguides and constant directivity loudspeakers available at the link below. Seems like I've often gotten the same questions and comments over the years, and I've tended to reply with a list of links to documents and messageboard threads. I cannot believe how these sound. To call them excellent speakers is an understatement. These speakers have changed my idea of what a loudspeaker is capable of. No joke. I have not one complaint about these things. These speakers are just 100% pure awesomeness.

Actually, it's WAY, WAY more than 114 (or 115) pairs of speakers. That's 115 PEOPLE who have built 'em. Many have built MORE than one pair! SOME of us crazy folks have built up to a half-dozen pairs or more each!

In fact, I've built 5 pairs, and a set of five for a video theater setup, so far...
and I've just been commissioned to build my seventh set by a client here (pair of Large Advent E-waves, in fact)...
