Mainly looks, as just one port in that cab is like 1.5" long, and I would wanna center it,
using two of them gets the ports to 5" long and you can space them near the outsides.

So for me seeing two on the outside versus one in the center looks better, and the 1.5"
long port just doesn't look right to me, the 2 longer ones I think look much better, then
if you want to play with tuning you have more options with plugs.:yes:

Andy I like the idea of moving the drivers up a bit higher as well like you mentioned. :thmbsp:

Edit: Not two "smaller" ports, but "two" 3" wide ports verse "one" 3" wide port.
 
Well see yu scrap it all up till it works, then you make it pretty, for the women of'course. :thmbsp:
 
Had To Check It Out.

Figured I'd hook up the EQ and run some pink noise just for the heck of it since the EQ is sitting there.

Both channels do pretty much the same thing, yah it's an EQ and in room, plenty of bass showing up. :D

Gunna try plugging the ports and see what it shows, yah I know it's not to accurate but what the heck.:smoke:

2 things the EQ did help to confirm, the bass was definatly strong and goes pretty low,
the level adjustments on the L-Pads are where I thought they should be from listening.

Plugged both ports on both speakers, the low end came down a bit and more in line. I
set both L-Pads back an forth to definatly see it got to high or to low an dial um on in.
(pads are pretty much right where I had them set at, also the bass is less but very solid)
 
still listening and getting used to the sound. it's amazing how the sound stage completely changed. both speaker measure to be about 12 ohms. do i use 16 ohm tab at the power amp? or 8 ohm? it's been connected to 16 ohm so far.
 
With a tube amp it won't hurt to try either and see which one sounds the best to you.

Also if when you say they measure 12ohms that's with a multimeter, well that's just the
DC resistance, the impeadance is most certainly higher then you are measuring them at.
 
Good question, since I don't have "real" test gear.

All I know is I've measured speakers in the past and haven't had the 30hz scale show up
like it is now, on real low notes things can get vibrating without much of a problem though.
(never did measure a sub with the EQ)

If I had to venture a guess I'd say they go down to that 30hz with some pretty decent gain.

There making more low bass then anything that's been in here, except when I ran home theatre
an 4 subs, they seem to be going just a bit deeper with more gain then Winisd says they would.:dunno:
 
Plugging the ports on HPM-100 is going to strip off the boom and make them play flatter, as Kegger has observed. They may even reach a bit lower that way.

BUT, you're giving up power handling using them closed-box. If you want to rock out, as in massive beer swillin' party time, unplug the ports and boom yer brains out.... :thmbsp:

Kegger normally has about 5-10w on tap. :)
 
Yah the 2 main amps I run latley are roughly 10-12 wpc. (and I don't need a lot of it)

In the original HPM config, the cabinet has less volume with more stuff in it like the mid
enclosure which I knocked out of there and the cab is tuned much higher with a single
3" wide 3" long port to roughly 40hz, this gives a pretty big bump centered at 55-75hz
up about 3 to 4 db. With the 2 3" wide 15" long ports and the little more cabinet volume
I'm running the bump is more spread out and raised less from 1 to 2db from 50 to 100hz
then of'course plugging both of the ports pretty much flattens them out, or plug 1 port
and be in between the 2, up roughly 1db. Overall a versatile arrangement. :D

That's what WinIsd has to say anyway.
