ADS L Series 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Comparision

I sat down tonight and compare 4 sets of ADS 2-ways. All have had the electrolytic capacitors upgraded to polypropylene. I used a Luxman R-115 and also Rebuilt Nad 1020 + Dayton APA150 combo for comparison. So midfi but decent sounding gear—stuff I'd actually use for a secondary system. My...

    3 truckloads of speakers...

I answered a craigslist ad and bought about 3 pickup truck loads of speakers for $100. Some are in good shape, some need a new surround or driver, and some have trashed cabinets. I'm trying to sort out what I've bought, what's worth restoring/repairing/keeping and what is best turned into an art...

    ADS L810 restoration/repair

So I got caught up in the moment and bought a pair ADSL810 that need some TLC. A damaged mid and grill...for starters....maybe more things when I inspect them later this week. I will start searching the forums for tips, specially anything related to the crossover and recommended parts/brands for...

Can someone identify a resource for purchasing a new woofer for my ADS L 730 speaker. It needs a Stifflite 10" woofer. I can't find a source on the web.

Anyone remember an ADS delay unit for running rear speakers with 2 channel stereo?

I'm not certain that it was made by ADS, but I think so - I think that's why I took it seriously and demonstrated it to customers. A black box, maybe 4 inches high, and less than rack width. It had controls which set the delay time for the rear speakers, to simulate different sized music halls...

    ADS dilemma... pricing help needed

Greetings I have an ADS speaker dilemma that I was hoping to get some help with. I have a pair of L1230s and l1290s that used to be upstairs and downstairs speakers. A house recent house sale has left me with both pairs and a much smaller house. I have to get rid of one of them. The 1230s are...

    danomar is an excellent seller

I bought a pair of ADS speakers from danomar. They’re in every bit as good shape as he advertised them. He also met me halfway between our cities (Nashville and Atlanta) to make the deal, and it was fun to talk about music and audio. Thanks, Daniel, for the good transaction all around! Nolan

    Thoughts on 80's equipment

What are your opinions on hifi equipment from the 80s and 90s? It seems that everybody has an opinion or a memory on pieces from the 70s. From the beautiful silver faced Pioneers and Kenwoods to the amazing wood cased Luxman and Marantz plus all the sweet Yamahas and Sansuis between. Not to...

So what speaker is better than ADS in a same price range?

Hi, As much as many of us love and prefer ADS speakers, me being one in the ADS fan club, I wonder if there is anything better in the same price range - new or vintage? I know many people here were lucky enough to be able to compare multiple speakers, so I hope to get some opinions. I know, for...

    Early ADS L810 disassembly?

Hi all, it appears I managed to blow (hopefully) the tweeter fuses on my ADS L810 speakers. These are the original L810s without banana plugs or an access panel. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to disassemble these things. I’ve attached some pictures. The manuals I can find online all...

Of a small wall, guess the winner.

I am choosing to unload three of these pairs. They all have their strengths along with some undeniable... qualities. Feel free to match a number with a letter :) 1. One pair has a bit of a zingy treble, but has great mids and nice detail. 2. One pair has slightly more relaxed lower-and-middle...

    aDs 1230 swap?

I have a friend who has a pair of aDs 1230's he's had since new (37 years). He says one woofer in each cabinet has ceased to function and he wants to downsize to a smaller speaker (moved to a new smaller house as well). He's started talking crazy talk about sawing off the bottoms of the...

ADS Speakers question - help needed

Hi All, SInce we have so many ADS experts here, I hope that someone can help me out. I picked up a pair of ADS L10 bookshelves. Nice speakers, but one seems to have a blown woofer. It looks like its a 7inch woofer, number 206-3015. Thats all I know. I cant seem to find a replacement, so my...

Couple shots of an ADS 910 recap

After experimenting with some option, I found Clarity Cap worked nicely on the tweeter. Clear but not harsh. The one mod I decided on was halving the value to the resistors on High Frequency Cut 1. Takes the edge off without sounding dull or loosing any of the airiness.

a/D/s L710 with no fuse - should I be concerned?

Hi. Long time listener, first time caller. I have an opportunity to get a pair of very good condition L710's for a decent price. From my research they seem to be early models with square corners, cloth grills, a/D/s logo, thumbscrew terminals, butyl (rubber) surrounds and no tweeter fuses. Most...

ADS L710 - I joined the ADS Club

I dont know if its the peer pressure or my own curiosity, but after reading many threads about the ADS Speakers, and even after having listen to a couple of models, I finally and a proud owner of the ADS L710 (I think its version 2) speakers. ADS L300 variants

A while back I obtained a set of ADS L300e speakers. I found that the output of one tweeter was noticeably diminished. Old Guy's Cave W/ KLH Fives added

Recently aquired KLH Fives. Redoped the mids and woofers. Waited as long as could, two days, to cure. First listen today. One speaker has non original mids that will be replaced. A little wide apart yet. They do the East Coast Vintage Sound well. Ample bass through subdued highs. Which I like...

    JBL or ADS?

Yep, that's right, I cant just simply enjoy what I have. Have to always look at other toys. In this case I found JBL L166 and ADS l1290. Both seem to be in good condition. Both about the same price. And no - cant afford to get both now. Price is not "super deal" - so it's not something to try...

calling all ADS guys... need guidance on my 1090 refers project.

Picked up a pair of 1090's in 'meh' condition on CL for 150$. The guy bought them new in, I think, 1994. My mint condition L7's are my favorite, everyday use speakers, so I was going to leave the 1090's as-is and just see if I liked them. Wellllllll... now I can't stop thinking about getting...

    ADS Metal Grille Pegs

As the owner of L 1590's I have the infamous metal grilles with the oddball unobtainium pegs. My grilles have 4 of the 6 pegs each and I need to remedy that. I think some of you may have come up with some good ideas on how to fab something similar to those pegs or that would replace the...

Adding a sub to my vintage setup... help.

OK, my current rig is thus: -VPI Scout> Harman-Kardon 730 TwinPower> a/d/s L7e speakers. Space is limited and volume level is low-moderate. (I'm just retired from a 30 year career as a live/studio drummer, so I'm good on 'loud' for ten lifetimes.) I love, LOVE the sound of the L7e's, but...

    ADS M9 midrange repair

I found a pair of ADS M9 speakers in a thrift store for $10. The midranges are both dead, poked out domes, at least one needing a voice coil. Woofers and tweeters are OK. Can I replace the domes on the mids or am I stuck with looking for new drivers?
