Hello all!
I was "given" a Revox B710 a couple of years ago and now I want to refurbish it. The problem is: when I put the power on, the left capstan starts spinning REALLY fast!
The unit will still rewind and fast forward but as soon as I hit play, the tape gets mangled all around the left...
Hello all, I have a Revox turntable in working condition, I've replaced all the capacitors, diode bridges and whatever is reasonable in such an old machine, the regulators I remember, in practice all the components that Revox experts recommends to change.
The speed is OK, from time to time...
Hi all,
I pulled out my old Revox B780 receiver out of storage recently. It been sitting in there for 10 years. Plugged it in, powered it up and predictably it blew its Rifa safety capacitor on startup in a cloud of smoke. Undeterred, I chose to give it a good makeover, took it apart, changed...
Hi all, I recently bought a Revox A77 MkIII 2-track version that seems to be in good condition- besides the fact that I cannot get it to record!
Fast forward, rewind, stop all work. I had a pre-recorded 2track tape that plays fine, so playback is good too. One of the VU meters is visibly...
PR 99 MKII:
Background on the deck:
The deck has been totally recapped. The heads are brand new and they were sent to JRF magnetics to be mounted on the headblock. So no issues expected with the heads. The metal Brake bands were also changed with new ones. New motor bearings and pinch roller...
I just popped new heads on a second PR99 i have - the first went ok but fraught with complications. The second was MUCH easier and I've done most of my head alignment except now it seems that my zenith is a bit off (that is to say both R and PB heads are a bit 'tilted back' and giving uneven...
Hi all - I recently got a ReVox b285 that was supposed to work, but it is giving me a DC fault. Does anyone know of a good technician to take it to in NYC? Thanks in advance.
Hello:
I have a question:
If you want to do a complete restoration of Reel to Reel deck what would be your method approach of in doing it?
I am not just talking about recapping the the deck, I mean servicing/replacing everything that's not nailed down: reel motors, capstan motor, tape path...
Hi, I just got a single owner B710 mk II and I fired it up. First tape wouldn't play at all, though would rewind, although sometimes I had to jiggle the tape in the well to get it to go. Hmm. Took that over to my Nak DR2 and it wouldn't play or rewind at all. OK, bad tape.
Next tape (an...

Hi all! I have a Revox PR99 (model is on both front and back) that doesn't look like the Mk I, II or III. Basically, it lacks all kinds of knobs and tings in the bottom middle and right that the Mk I does have.
Can anyone help me identify the exact model? Also, does anyone know where I can...
I am recently jumped on a chance to buy some very interesting Revox Receiver (B780) and Amplifier (B242).
The problem with both of these unit are I can't seem to get any sound out of them at all (no noise, no cracking, no hiss, dead quiet).
On the B780, after messing around, I found out that I...
Hi,
I'm stuck and trying to understand the cause of the following problem: I have a Revox B215 which stops randomy in FF / REV modes.
So far I did the following:
- Recaping the power supply / control board (the one with the three MAB 8440 chips)
- Recaping the daughter board (capstan driver)
-...
Hello, first post here. After finding a B215 on the street(!), plugged it in to confirm that it was in fact dead. Oh well, I was up for the challenge. I have since recapped it, which has fixed the completely dead situation.
This brings me to the current situation - cleaning up the transport. I...
Hi all,
I have an issue with my b790 tone arm. When the needle drops down to make contact with the record, the cartridge shifts off to the left as it is dropping. It sometimes will drop too far to the left and will be lifted back up.
I've found that if I prop up one side of the turntable...
First off, I'm very new here, so I apologize if this is not the correct subforum to post in. It was the most appropriate I could find.
I recently bought a Revox A77 and about a dozen tapes. The deck recorded and sounded great, but I just now ran into a problem.
The deck had played a tape...
Hello
Several years ago now I was given a Revox B795 direct drive turntable from my father. He had originally bought it brand new in the early 80's and it never spun. He had brought it to a repair shop at some point and they were not able to fix it. 30+ years later I took it on as a project and...
I searched but couldn't a post about my issue. I purchased the A77 new in 1971 and after my service life hardly used it. The last time I had it on was about 15 years ago. I stored it since that time. I just got it out and cleaned it up. It wasn't too bad since I had it in a room within...
Hello everyone,
I recently acquired a little used B215, E-type, SN: 1100. Works very well, except one odd issue which some of you might have an idea how to tackle.
During the winter holidays I had time on my hands and binge-recorded my extensive Zappa collection to my very well preserved TDK...
I just obtained a Revox B795 and found the stylus was worn out, so replaced it with the AKG X15 MD.
The cart is the original Revox P20 MDR.
Works ok with clean sound, but volume is low. I have to turn up my amp about 75% to get a decent volume.
Anyone any ideas?
Hello everyone
My first post brought about because I've just purchased one of these from one of the UK Revox agents. It's in excellent condition both aesthetically, mechanically and electrically. The agent has replaced a number of items, including some bearings, caps, pinch roller, etc and...
