Ah, the dreaded foam rot. I picked up a pair of Cerwin Vega R123 speakers last year, but the surrounds were toast on the 12" woofers. After I ordered the replacement kit from Simply Speakers, I had (what may or may not prove to be) the bright idea to record myself working through the whole...
My accordion speaker surrounds just arrived in the mail, or so you could call. The only ones I could find came attached to the cone itself as one piece, as seen in the photo below.
Now, should I cut the cone off from the surround and glue that to the speaker cone already on the speakers? Or...
EDIT: SOLVED using a rubber surround off eBay! I just measured the surround and found the closest match on eBay, from China, worked perfectly. Cost a dollar or two. Woo!
I've had this KV-4 center channel hanging around my garage for a while. It uses K-1035-KN 8" woofers which came with...
I am having a difficult time finding any cloth accordion replacement for my woofer surrounds, mostly all are switching over to rubber/foam. The size I am looking for is 5 1/2 inches, any recommendations on where to look?
So, I grabbed a new toy today. An SVS sub, model SB12-NSD for $400 new on sale. It's literally a couple of hours old and not broken in yet, but already is awesome. It's replacing 2 10" ported subs at 100watts each. I'm not going to say it's louder than the 2 subs I had, but it's loud enough...
So I managed to find 2 pairs of rather minty JBL100 Centruries at a local estate sale and they stuck around for 50% off day  Got them home and everything is working. however, upon close inspection, there is some sort of oil on the surrounds of all 4 woofers. It's still wet/tacky and...
I have a set of Bose 901 II's that I'm bringing back to life (mostly cosmetic). These have the Bose drivers with cloth surrounds, so I don't have "foam rot" on 18 drivers. However, I've noticed that (to my eyes, at least) that the doping on the cloth may not be providing a good seal. I have...
I saw these on eBay for 159. Pictures were out of a guys trunk. Seemed legit... He was only 45 minutes away so I took a shot. Cosmetically they were Great after I cleaned them up. I pulled the drivers nominal impedance was good. Crossovers had no visual defects, but when I fired them up both...
First off let me say that much of this stuff gets me confused so I may be asking things that may not make any sense.
I have a Pioneer Spec 1 preamp ne. head unit and two Spec 4 amps, a pair of DBX Soundfield V speakers and a pair of Pioneer tower speakers. My first thought was to split the...
Hi, I have had a pair of Energy ESAT-2 speakers with rotten foam surround for a while.
I ordered a surround repair kit for them as well. My question is upon disassembling the speakers there was a significant amount of glue holding the speaker basket to the front of the enclosure and some glue on...
These are the surrounds. Adire AV5s with Audax TM025F1 tweets, a custom crossover, Ribbon mahogany covered with tung oil, and a rear port tuned to 70Hz. The image is simply stunning in it's depth. These units can even be used for small mains, with a sub for bottom end chores. Measured in room F3...
