UNC and Duke play the rubber match for the conference title at 1 EDT, should be good stuff. I'll be catching up on my music listening during the game, as that asshat Dick Vitale is calling the game on tv.

Missouri travels to DC to play Cincy. That should be a good game.
I kind of laughed when #1 seed Duke travels to the West Coast to play, while #2 seed North Carolina stays and plays in NC. Weird how stuff like that works out. Not a fan of either team.

Those teams aside, it looks like the best balanced brackets in a long time. At least Duke will have to beat a team of significance to get to the final 16, unlike the cakewalk they usually get. If they make it this year, they will surely have earned it.

Oh man, possibly Marquette in the second round? Xavier in Cleveland? Well, if the 'Cuse goes far it will be because they earned it. No sleeping here.
Poor Colorado and really, Harvard as well. I got a chance to see Harvard play in person this year and that's a solid basketball team. Heartbreaker yesterday and really, I think a snub today.
In other news I accidentally uncalibrated my TV yesterday and it's pissing me the hell off try to get it back to the way I had it. I knew I should have written those settings down. Just in time for the tourney, man, how could I be so stupid?!

My "little" alma mater, Wofford College, has made the tourney for the second year in a row after winning the Southern Conference again.

Marquette's a very fun team to watch. They always play a very energetic and tight-scoring game. They're pretty good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory though.

yep Duke whipped the tar out of the Heels. Not attacking till well into the second half works against the Clemsons and Miamis of the world, but not against top shelf teams. I have no idea why UNC is seeded so high in the tournament

I'm not convinced that the Dookies are a #1 seed either (though I'm equally unconvinced about Notre Dame who probably would have been the #1 in their place).
Who knows? Let the games begin, even if they're being played without VT or Colorado.

Anyone have any sleeper picks in the #10-#16 seed range?
The neighborhood guys do a really stupid tourney setup where there's 8 guys and you end up with 8 teams, picking order is decided by pulling a number out of a hat. In the 4 years we've done it I've never gotten to pick better than 6th so I haven't really had a chance to win. It's a one point per win system so a couple of first round wins can have a significant effect on total points.

We do a variation of this at work. It's actually a pretty fun pool. We get 8 guys who each pick a number (1-8) out of a hat. Then we go one person at a time (1 through 8, then 8 through 1, then 1 through 8 and so forth ...) through the 64 teams. Each person ends up with 8 teams each (the winner of the play-in game counts as a team and you don't get a win for the play-in victory)and the guy whose teams have the greatest number of total wins in the end takes the pot ($10 apiece).

Yep, that's what we do. Even though I proved to the guys that anyone picking late couldn't have won in 07, 08 or 09 they still believe that everyone has an equal chance. Too many sales and marketing guys in the group...
To add to the egregiousness, we split the pool 50% for whoever has the winner and 50% for most points. It's $40 per head here.

About half the time, a guy whose picks were selected by a proxy (he couldn't make the drawing/selection meeting) won. In fact, I've picked a winning collection of teams for other players twice in the past five years. It's better to have your teams picked by me than to be me. I tend to overthink my picks. On theirs, I pick chalk.
