2sc1451 transistors

What unit are you replacing the 2sc1451's with. The KSC3503DSTU is the now established replacement for the 1451 in PIONEER GEAR. It replaced the ksc2073 abut 2 years ago. if it's in a pre driver position in the amplifier the gain is a non issue.
 
The ideal replacement was the old Panasonic 2SC1953, but they've been OOP for a few years now. On-Semi bought Sanyo Semiconductor a while back, and they are bringing to market the 2SC3902T and the 2SA1507T (the 'T' being the higher gain option device). These should be even better than the KSC3503/KSA1381 devices. I have a bunch on order to experiment with.

I'm not saying that there's much wrong with the C3503/A1381 devices, but these new C3902/A1507's have noticeably better gain and in some situations this may matter...such as in the Accuphase P-300, where they will be responsible for offset correction.

To bad that their are no more hfe matching grades available from Fairchild/Mouser
C3902/A1507's look promising.
Would like to know about your test results and what you used to test them on.
 
I'm planning to replace 2sc1451's in sa-9100 and Exclusive M3. The earlier replacements for this transistor (2sc3503E) doesn't seam to be available anymore. The 2sc3503 is still on Mouser, but in D code hfe.
Since the M3 has several of these transistors used in pre-amp bias/offset, it would be usefull to know any experiences with C3902/A1507 so far.

I've used the C3902T in a few places, and it seems to do the job well. The A1507T has been back ordered for months. Mouser carries the 'S'-gain variant, which is probably fine for most applications.

Is it the same pin configuration as the 1451s?

Would the s-gain be a good fit for the 700C? :scratch2:
 
The 1451 has the legs arranged in a circle, so no comparison there. You'll have to download the data sheet for the new device and figure out which leg goes where on the PC board.

I have (had?) been recommending the C3902 and A1507 to replace the C1451/52 and A809/810. I don't think the 700C uses the A809/810 anywhere, so I'm not sure where you were thinking of using the A1507.

The absolute best part for the job was some Panasonic transistors that were discontinued a few years ago (2SA0914 and 2SC1953). I should have bought hundreds of them before they disappeared. Damn... Anyway, the best replacement now for the C1451/52 and A809/810 are the Sanyo 2SA1209 and 2SC2911. Since On-Semi bought Sanyo Semi, these will probably go away shortly as well. In the meantime B&D has them.

But if you're ordering from Mouser and just want to tack on a transistor that will do a decent job, the C3902T and A1507S will work just fine. Not the 'ideal' part, but the downside isn't enough to worry about. I'm just picky with transistor specs.

You're right Glenn, there are no A809/910 in the 700C, what I meant was a replacement for the C1451's.

By the way, ebay has 2SC1953 at a premium price from a seller in China. Do you think these are reliable? (not fake):

No reason to fool with 'em when there are other parts that will work fine. The 'S' suffix bugs me...the Matsushita data sheet does not list an 'S' variant, only a 'Q' and an 'R'.
