4400 bulbs

Can someone please direct me to a good source for Marantz reciever bulbs, and possibly tell me how to restore the original blue tint of the tuning dial? Everything else is O.K., this seems to be all I need to make it look good again.

Contact AK'ers whsh93a for LED replacements or dgwojo for factory replacements.

I have bought from both of these guys and highly recommend either one.:thmbsp:

Change the vellum paper behind the dial glass while you're at it.
I use vellum but others may use parchment paper or something similar.

Thanks Jeff...I've been trying to connect with whsh93a for a couple of weeks, but it doesn't seem like he's been getting my messages, or something.
I was getting impatient, because when I listen to it, it sounds beautiful, but it kinda looks like a big piece of junk.

Don, I don't know if you'll get this message or any of the recent ones I sent to you at the "'Conversation' part of AK", but other than your snail mail message I received a couple of days ago, this right here is the last place we had any contact, sort of.. (I couldn't read the e-mail address you included with your letter, but I took a guess, which must have wrong).....anyway, the m.o. was for the replacement bulbs for the dial on my Marantz 4400. I didn't need the entire kit, because the rest are O.K. I'm sorry to be a pain in the ass, but if you receive this, I'll never bother you again, I promise. :thmbsp: Please e-mail me if you get this message roydd@verizon.net

Sweet!!

Even with bulbs out, the 4400 has a sort of Marantz masculine look to it, especially with the rectangular buttons, and of course, the scope.

Please do post some pics once the bulbs are installed, would love to see how it turns out.

I recently purchased a beautiful blue scope 4400 and a friend/expert Marantz technician is reconditioning it including replacing the fuse lamps but it needs:
1) Stereo indicator bi-pin lamp 12v 40ma
1) 4-CH indicator bi-pin lamp 8v 100ma (I currently have the standard 8v 40ma lamp in here but it is not as bright as it needs to be)

I contacted dgwojo but haven't yet received a reply. Does anyone out there know where I can buy these lamps?

....just kidding. I received a set of led's from whsh93a a matter of hours ago, and I can't wait to get to the fun part.

I'm already having a problem...I can't get the face plate completely off, it's attached some how to the top. Thought I'd ask here what to do so I don't cause any damage,...:worried:

With the metal and/or wood case removed, look for a small phillips screw inserted into the dial shroud from the top.

Never mind...I pulled the thing out and got the top screw... I foolishly thought I could get away with doing the whole thing without flipping it over and removing the hex screws bolting it to the wooden case, but nooooo...

Anyway, I'm going to actually open a new thread, because I'm almost in, and I just want to be ****ing DONE with it!!

I now realize how ridiculous it was to have made such a big deal over this...

Here are a few which may help other Marantz owners to figure out what's best for them:
The first 3 are w/ LED's, the 4th is a mixture of LED's and incandescents, w/ out vellum paper or faceplate (alternating, beginning w/ LED on far right), the 5'th is w/ incandescents, and the 6th, incandescents w/ out paper.

It's pretty clear that the vellum diffuser is necessary, you get some pretty nasty hot spots without it. I really like the LEDs on your 4400, they look softer than the standard bulbs, but the numbers stand out better, more defined. The LEDs in my 2235B are fantastic. Well done!

Yeah, I wanted to find out how much the color was effected by the vellum paper, so I removed it, and I still got that greenish tint that the LED's blue color completely overpowers. Should I try the incandescents w/ new vellum diffusion paper just for the hell of it...:headscrat

I'm just now looking at this thread for the first time, so please forgive me if I'm misunderstanding the topic, but...You don't remove the faceplate on a Marantz receiver to replace the lamps. You pull back the covers behind the faceplate.

I just did the LED conversion on my 4400 and I had to remove the face plate and the little black strip of metal above the tuning dial cord so I could pull the tuning needle up and out of the way.

Then I pulled the plastic dial with the numbers on it (and vellum glued to the back which miraculously still appears in perfect shape) forward and away from the face. It exposed the cavity with the 6 incandescent lamps which I removed with needlenose pliers. The replacement LED fuse bulbs just pop right in the brackets.

Pretty easy job once you figure it out. It did take me a few minutes of pondering before I realized the solution.
