A $9200 receiver? Really?

My Ex Sister-In-Law married into an upper class family (she since divorced). Her at the time, mother in-law had a doll collection insured for $500K+. Was not uncommon for her to spend $10K+ on a doll. Dressing them up was another $2K+ on top... This was in the late '80's, early 90's too.

To each their own....
 
Prices have skyrocketed, nostalgia is hip, and the 1980 is probably one of the three most desirable receivers ever made, along with the 2500 and big Sansui G. He might not get that now (though he might), but I don't think it will be long before you won't even blink at a pricetag like that. Makes a guy kinda wish he hadn't sold his 1980 a few years back lol. :rolleyes:
 
There was a Pioneer SX1280 and fluoroscan cassette player at an auction I went to today. They powered on though unknown working condition. I was very tempted but stopped my bidding at $1050. If I had continued, I probably could have had it for $1400 after fees/taxes. Not a $9000 unit, but I'm kicking myself a tiny bit for not taking the plunge.
 
I love vintage stereo and vintage drums! Both these items have gone up in price exponentially over the years! Here's a beautiful SX-1980 that sold on eBay back in April, 2008 for $2,525. The receiver had absolutely no work done to it, but was in pristine, like-new, condition.

I can’t recall how the thread concluded but as I remember the receiver was sold for a five figure sum with the first number being a 2. Then it was relisted due to the buyer not realizing it was local pick up only. On the second round it was sold for “best offer” but doesn’t specify the exact amount.

Thanks. I was pretty sure there was a Mulligan in play. (Do over/relist).
While the thread might have been "spicy" I believe that when the seller appeared and started posting that the thread was either closed or deleted.
Something about self promotion if I remember correctly.
 
10K stereo receivers, 9K bottles of bourbon, 10K dolls!.......I paid $60 in 1966 for a Mercury Comet that $2 in gas got me 1/4 tank....never had more than that in it.....drove it for 5 years.....the 8 track I bolted under the dash cost more than the car.....priorities, to each his own!

Times have changed for sure. I can remember gas for 16 cents a gallon Cigarettes in a machine for 25 cents bread on sale 4 loaves for a dollar a 1 lb Tbone steak with all the fixings for $1.25. And I can remember my father telling me when he was a kid going to the bakery a standard sized loaf of bread was a half penny a large loaf with a candy cane in the fold on top for a full penny, A Hamburger was 5 cents dinner pretty much anywhere was a dime. Shortly before I quit smoking cigarettes were $10.00 plus a pack I remember telling the girl at the cash register that I told my self when cigarettes got to 50 cents a pack I was going to quit she looked at me like I was either a liar or insane of course she was only in her 20's.

I remember paying.19 cents for gas before the 1st oil embargo in 1973...it then shot up to .75 cents a gallon in a very short time (seemed like overnight). Back then my Pop was a GS-12 and made $12K a year, which was a pretty good salary,. You could buy a new well appointed car for $6K.

Coulda gotta all the money if they would have invested in a pelican case to ship it in. Spend a bit make a lot. But most just want to count the cash and don't take the extra steps.

He probably made more than that as a 12. 12 pay was between 17.5-22.4 depending on level in Oct 1973. That is a pretty big difference just at the first level. Today 12 pays 68-88. Adjusted for inflation the 73 numbers are 111-143k. Hmmm.
