Count me as just not excited. That price, adjusted for inflation, is about double the price of an amp I bought new in 1990 that delivers more power with cleaner specs. I'm happy enough Yamaha's still in the home audio game, but that's about the extent of my reaction.

I played with an A-S2000 in a hifi store, and was impressed, but not as impressed as with my considerably cheaper (and similar looking!) ancient CR-200...

This new one looks very cool.

Specs are about the same as my Onkyo TX-8511 receiver, which cost less than $200 refurbished. It's made of black aluminum, which looks like plastic.

the street price is going to be a lot lower, and the MSRP may also come down once it's on the market. if the selling price comes down to $4000 or so, they will sell some, if not a lot. and inflation-adjusted, $8000 is the same price as the Yamaha B-1 VFET was in 1974.

this is a statement piece, remember. none of Yamaha's main competitors are making anything like this, at least as far as i know. i don't understand why more people aren't glad that they would do this. although if you're thinking vintage, it IS going after it's traditional competitors: Accuphase, Luxman, and Marantz. pricewise, they aren't completely out of line even at $8k. only time and ears will tell how well they do with this.

Well the price went up from the initial European MSRP. It was listed at €4000 but if you check the French and English site today, the MSRP is missing. $7500 is quite a lot more than €4000 and we don't even get the brushed aluminum in silver. There is also no 7 gang fm tuner, no high end turntable (ala GT2000X) to go with it and some NS?000 with berylium drivers would be nice. Just an amp and cd player isn't enough.

The current Yamaha integrated amps are very good. I have the A-S1000 and love it. Built like a tank and sounds very nice.

I'd grab one of these if I can.. I agree price should come down from that MSRP. Seems over the top to me.. It's certainly a future collectable. Its the CA-2010 of the 21st century. Get one!

These are just some examples I chose on a whim. Each company has a rather vast product portfolio, of exclusively very expensive equipment. Luxman released some new models this winter, among others - some REALLY vintage-looking pieces:
