Those I believe are the original large Advents in the Walnut cabinet!
Although, the woofer looks like it has been replaced with something other than the correct woofer for that speaker.
They are excellent speakers and I'm sure you can find the correct woofers for them.

Enjoy
Bob

Those are NOT original woofers! They look like Yamahas woofers I once had though.
You can find original woofers all over that auction web site- I think there is a pair there righ now already refoamed, etc for like $80!
Good luck

Replacement woofer but might be a good one. Looks like a HPM basket but the cone looks very JBLish

Been listening to these speakers for a few hours and they don't sound to shabby.Pulled out the drivers and they are peavey scorpions 12825.

Any opinions on these drivers?

when you get the correct woofers in there you will wonder how you could have even considered keeping the peavey drivers.

While I'll echo what others have said about getting proper woofers in these Advents, you kind of hit the jackpot in terms of replacements (which for me are usually generic Realistic drivers or Pyle car subwoofers :headscrat ). I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that selling that quad of Peavys covers at least one used pair of Advent woofers.

Interestingly... the acoustic suspension (sealed box) alignment is much more forgiving of Thiele-Small parameter mismatched woofers than, e.g., bass reflex (ported) enclosures. This isn't to say that the Peavey woofer is a good match for the Advent box (it likely isn't), but it may not be as grotesque a mismatch as one might initially expect. The efficiency of the Peavey woofer vs. the Advent tweeter might be as much or more of an issue.

I would suggest that you measure the openings where the woofers are before running off to eBay for some originals. From the photos I suspect whoever installed those Peaveys did some cutting to fit them in place. If so, the originals will drop right through the holes. Without removing any of mine I can give you a rough idea of the hole size.

Who ever put those woofers in should be shot! I agree that you will likely have a problem fitting the original drivers into the hole they carved into those poor speakers. Even though the woofer basket of the Large Advent is based on a 12" frame those Peavey 12" speaker cones look much larger and it is likely the holes were enlarged to accommodate them.

THe site is there, but layne is gone. YOu'll be talking to air.

ANY large advent woofer will work, even the newer all steel basket ones. With the old cabinets, you can use the newer woofer but you can use the old woofer in the newer cabinet. --but yes, as Rob said measure to make sure the cabinet hasn't been hacked. In most cases a replacement 12" drops right into thtat hole but you never know.

Get the right woofers and you'll be amazed at how good they sound.

Guys: I pick up a quad of these speakers.I took the peavey out and put in the original ringed woofer from the other pair in,the screw holes matched up  there was no cutting into on that speaker. If you put the peavey face to face with the original driver there is no difference they are the same,a drop in replacement. The 64 thousand dollar is how tough is it to separate the ring from the driver. Is there a special method to this. If anybody has a leed on a set of original woofers PM me. Thanks all for you replies......tony

Well that's good news. I don't think it is necessary to remove the masonite ring. Admittedly it is an interesting game to put in a new surround but doable.

Nope, don't separate the ring.

I've re-foamed the masonite ring woofers. It's a pain in the @$$. Buying foam specifically for Advents (as opposed to generic) may help and result in a better finished product.

Just finished The advent refoam on the first pair last night,What a difference compared to the peaveys. These sound incredible, now to foam the second set and stack these babies.I bought the kit from M Sound(Thanks John) they came with the foams, glue, shims, dust caps, brushes, and extra long Q-tips.This was an easy project with the right kit. .....tony

I have always got great kits and advice from John @ M Sound.

Happy to see your Advent project look and probably sound this good! When you get 'em stacked you will be in the big leagues....
