I'd pass. I had a pair and moved them along. Just very average sound for what are big cabs and a famous name.

at least those have the extended-range Biflex drivers (unlike the later Santana II or whatever it was called). Probably worth a hunnert smackers but, as posted above, not in the same league, by any stretch, as real (horned) Altecs.

If they were local i'd have bought them in a heartbeat at that price since the 420A's are worth a minimum of 400/pr with clean cones and dent free domes.

I paid 175 for mine, after flipping the 420A's and cutting new baffles and installing thriftily sourced drivers, horns, and XO's, i have a great sounding pair of 2-way speakers in finished cabinets with my original 175 plus a good bit more back in my pocket.
