Didn't know dat. Good to know, I think. :scratch2:
Generally an assurance that they contain the alnico 802G/416B drivers that the 19 was engineered around. Of course, that is assuming they are as original and haven't had any components swapped out over the years.

I have a pair with the stickers and they have a 416-8B & 416-8C in them.
Would be interesting to compare the date codes of the other components in the one with the "8C". It's not uncommon with Altec to find mixed and matched components resulting from end runs, spot orders where the exact components for the load weren't all on hand so substitutes were used, and/or drivers replaced under warranty by dealers.

Not all dealers were re-coners. So, if you blew a woofer in your 1977 model nineteen in 1980(you still had 2 years of warranty left) and your dealer didn't do re-cones, he's going to install the currently available woofer, 416-8C as a warranty replacement.

Next time I remove the drivers I'll make note of the codes. The 8B needed reconing. The 8C was fine.
