Audiolab 6000CDT CD Transport

Interesting to read the review, what put you onto Audiolab ? I owned their excellent CD 8200 and thought it performed well beyond its price tag. You know I still have the Line magnetic CD 215, a survivor of two transatlantic moves?

I see they're available on that auction site too. Can't part with that much fun money, but I definitely am keeping this on my radar.

Not terribly wild about not having a tray. Never trusted those "feed it in" arrangements, but the review was positively glowing.

I was looking for a good quality transport that didn't break the bank. After I tried my Luxman CD player as a transport and it absolutely killed my Oppo as a transport i was reminded of how much of a difference the transport makes. Every bit as much as the DAC. I had done some experimenting with transports some years back when I owned the Rega DAC and was astonished at how much of the transports sonic signature was part of the sound of the system. Each transport I tried imparted it's own sound on the setup.

So I started shopping and had heard good things about the Cambridge Audio CXC. I checked Audio Advisor's latest catalog which rests on the back of the throne at home and I noticed that Audiolab had a transport that's around the same price as the Cambridge. Also I hate the Cambridge Audio signature sound. I was hoping that the dedicated transport would be different. Well the Audiolab saved me having to find out the hard way. I found some positive comments about it and decided to take a punt on it. I am glad I did as it has been transformative.
 
I have been wondering about transports now that I have finally adopted the transport to stand alone dac route. My LM 215 sounds better through a PS Audio Newwave DSD DAC than not.
I am not short of CD players but am interested in learning about transports.

I have an Audiolab 8200cdq which I got to use the dac for streaming but never did since I got stand alone DACs instead.
Interesting that Audiolab changed from the tray that is on the 8200.

I really don’t have any idea which type of transport is best. The trays do seem fragile to me, yet I have not had problems with them. Maybe it is less about the type than the quality of the individual unit. I like the Apollo simple top loader. I have 2 of them.

My luck with cdp has been very good. Only 3 failures. 2 were very cheap models: NAD 1515BEE and a brand new Onkyo C 7030. The other was more expensive. A Cambridge Audio was noisy from new. It was a mechanical whirring, scraping. To discard only 3 considering how many I have used is amazing.
I had a Naim with the swing out tray that I could never center the puck right so that is one more to go.

Who sells the Audiolab CDT?

Coincidentally, my LM 215 today got a problem today while testing the new Aria.
It plays fine but will not eject the cd. Is there a way to open it without taking it apart? Cyrus Chestnut is imprisoned in there.
 
I see that Audio Advisor has the Audiolab. They have refused to mail to Alaska. They are the Amazon seller so that is one way around that.

The eBay store is HiFi Heaven but that has a lot of bad reviews.

Yes, I bought it from AA. They've been good to me. I wish Gene sold it but alas, no.
 
I plugged the LM215 in again after a few days and it opened normally. I still like the idea of the Audiolab transport only with DAC.
 
Been following Art's purchase since the other thread... He seems happy !! This unit gets great reviews...

If not for my use of Files (Flac mainly) for playback I would buy this one I believe

This is probably the smartest purchase I’ve had in a long, long time. Incredible build, quiet and most importantly, the sound. Best in your search.

Thanks. I wrote to AA them and they agreed to send it for $65 USPS. That is about right, as the price has gone up in the last few years. That makes the Amazon cheaper w/free shipping. I noticed that the silver ones were going for almost $100 more than black. My two favorite amps are silver as is my PS dac. I do have a black Altier. I guess for $100 I shouldn't be picky.
