Best subwoofers?your favorites

Who cares what the max input of your sub is. Frankly, it's a figure that doesn't mean much. As long as you pay attention to the sound you can safely use any amplifier ever made regardless of it's output wattage rating. It's really quit simple. If you sense strain or distortion turn the volume down. You're either running out of amplifier power or the speaker is being driven to hard. In either case turn it down. Change whatever necessary to get the sound you want.

And please, stop mentioning X Max as if it makes a difference in how a subwoofer sounds. Subs for the home don't usually use that measurement as any sort of a determining factor for how they sound. It's how they sound, not a spec that makes the difference.

At your age you're most likely a bass head. Many of us older "listeners" are also bass heads. Most of us have learned that there is such a thing as too much bass.
So xmax is not important I thought it had something to do with max spl or air moved . Thanks !!! Great information , theater subs go the lowest , car subs don’t go as low . PA subs aren’t really subwoofer cannot do under 38hz usually .
I’ve never turned it up loud enough to clip it the amplifier. In 12x 12’ room is one sub enough?

My second sub klh is usually off unless watching Netflix I would put in basement not sure if it its risky what if it floods or high humidity.

Xmax is just literally the distance the woofer in question can move either forward or backward and stay within its magnetic 'zone'
it's a physical measurement of a physical driver.

what relation it has to accurate bass reproduction is .... complex.

Xmax is the amount by which the voice coil can move in one direction without it leaving the magnetic zone. If excursion is increased even further, the back of the voice coil former will eventually slam into the magnet, risking permanent damage to the driver.

So how many often do they exceed xmech? Or xmax you seen this happening?
I’ve only had a vintage woofer do it once.
Why do car subs need such high wattage and xmax huge magnets??
Orion HCCA152 HCCA Black Coil Series 15” Sub Woofer 5000 Watts MAX / 2500 Watts RMS Dual 2-Ohm Voice Coil Competition Subwoofer – 2019 Model https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0069Z2YQS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_D-0VCbJGQGFCW
Looks usable for home theater or horn subwoofer.
I do like the definitive tech subs for tiny size loads of output . But my big sub beats them in output , take some up 10-20x the space so definitive tech wins for output for space used ?
I could had ported my sub for it’s box size but it’s sealed .

Any woofer can be pushed to exceed its X-Max. It's a matter of frequency and volume. If you hear a woofer doubling or sounding bad it has most likely exceeded it's x-max.

The Definitive Technology Trinity sub has been on my wishlist for >10 years. I've come across a few listings over the years, but none that were local so I still don't have one. Still hoping...

Anyways, I've had so-called 'built-in subs' in my main speakers, so I generally dismissed the need for a subwoofer. However, I recently came across a local listing for an Outlaw LFM-1 that was priced favorably, so I decided to give it a go. I was doubtful, since my built-ins are 15" (left and right), and the Outlaw sports only a single 12" woofer.

I've never been more wrong. I use it strictly for HT, but it does add significantly to the whole HT experience. Better late than never, I guess.

Man, I haven’t thought about Orion I a VERY long time! Back in my car audio competition days, if you were rocking Orion gear, you were the envy of everyone. I wonder why more people don’t use car audio subs for home? Bet 2-4 of those would be insane in a home theater.

Yeah they look perfect and can go petty low it’s like my subwoofer but on steroids way better battery and built quality. Sundown has a few Nice ones too , they are like my stereo integrity.

Bigger box on the ported SVS sub and that goes for most ported subs , sealed subs don’t require as much volume in the boxes . So it may seem ridiculous but your basically paying for a bigger box and weight with the ported SVS .

Sundown will play loud, but are not sound quality drivers, your SI driver is a very high Sq oriented sub, as all of their drivers are.

Shame none of these car brands make home audio subs .
Is it overkill to use a klh 10” sub behind my tv and a stereo integrity 15”? Will the little sub help at8774DED6-FEF1-4547-944F-11109080DB77.jpeg F2FDF2A7-4A67-4726-90D9-5AD41F41E005.jpeg all even
Otherwise I risk it getting too humid in basement . But might be safe

Just bought a B&W 608 and it is impressive for a 8 inch 200 watt. only $500 new. Goes dn to 23 KH, lower than most bigger units.IMG_0602.JPG . Check it out before buying something 4 times the price.

The best sub I've ever owned, and I think it's the best sub I've ever heard. I run it at around 1% of its rated power, it can do bass as much as you want.... seriously effortles and limitless. I'd love two if I ever find another one used again. but til then.
mx125.jpg
plays really nice as the right side subwoofer in my main system matched against the above JL on the right.
(for true hi fidelity listening, you need stereo subs, I don't care what anyone says.)

M&K dual push/pull 12" sub. I'd love the new ken kreisel version of this, but it's $$$$$$

and as I said in the other thread, the def tech supercube III is one hell of an amazing sub, especially since it's tiny and only has 7 1/2" driver with dual passives. in smaller rooms, it's all you'll need.

I'll second the Supercube! I run a Supercube II, and it's amazing what it puts out for its size.
8 inch driver with two 8 inch passive drivers, same design as the diagram above. Mated with my SMG's the low end depth it adds is stunning.

Dayton titanic is gone , ultimax looks good .
New super cube is not 8” I’ve heard amplifier dies a lot on definitely technological subs isn’t this true ? These could save lots of space.

Endless goodness subs out there !
$800 is a lot for https://www.crutchfield.com/S-WnMvT...MIjdTF07694gIVikcNCh0uXQDnEAUYBSABEgIVyPD_BwE
