We have, two now, dead trees to rid. I'd say at least 30' or higher.

I've got several of my 601 plastic pieces cleaned, as well as the cabinets. Surrounds should be in Friday. I'll begin the foam jobs this weekend. Depending on how productive I am I may have working speakers by next week.

I sold the 2600 when money crunch time showed its face...it was minty...JJTucker bought it. The 2280 is an excellent all-around unit- killer radio, plenty of power for the average room, built-in IMX expander, and you can pull the front panel off, cut some electrical tape to narrow those wide power meter lights- All said, its a damned good backup with the other stuff needs a break or service-

I so know the feeling. Looked up the 2280, nice receiver.
 
well it arrived on schedule... half the display lights didn't work... A/B speaker lights, Expander lights... but power meter, station & signal strength & input selector lights worked. Took apart, blew dust bunnies out...cleaned up nicely. Audio was spot on albeit the left channel was s few watts lower than right. Selected mono output & meters showed imbalance. IMX Expander worked nicely, but no display. Radio station seek/search/memory functions worked fine. Gonna have to send back I'm afraid. I went to Orlando to pick up two more iron maiden chandeliers. Helluva comment for a Bose thread. But hey. this is our corner. Finally gave the Bose a rest tonight for the first time since I unpacked them. Old friends came NY to see the big lights, invited them in for a coke...had the smoother jazz from the cable piped into the pioneer...they were stunned...complimenting the sound every 10 minutes. I love it!!!

Awesome. I stopped the 601 restoration to complete a couple other projects. The most challenging being a DQ-1W woofer, which I have a thread going.

I was doing a quick early mornin' sweep of an out of the way flea here Sat morning when I noticed these being used as speaker stands for some newer Magnavox or something.I came home and found this thread,needless to say I'm pretty excited!

Look good. Grills can be cleaned in the tub. I soaked one, just to try it out, with 409 for a couple hours. When I rinsed it off the dirt coming off was crazy.

I'll be starting with mine shortly and will post detailed images and verbiage to help current and future owners. It will be in a separate thread.
 
Ok,These need more than 409 and a good soak.I'm not sure at this point weather to attempt to fix myself,or haul them up to St.Pete and get them professionally tested and done up right?I'm really digging all the good Karma and info though,so I'm leaning towards a self-re-build.
 
onwardjames are you sure you don't dig them because they look like a Satellite Solar Array? Here are the rest of the pictures,

Look just like mine, a filthy freaking mess. ;)

If you aren't in any hurry, you might wait for me to post my project. I'm pretty sure it will help AND make things easier. The worst of it, really, is the re-foam and they're no different from other speakers. You can check youtube for many great videos on doing a re-foam.

I think you would be surprised what soaking in 409 will do. I know I was. Best part, no scrubbing.
 
I'm wondering if my Sansui 771 will have the juice they need?The plastic grill is broke on top also,I'm wondering if Bose still has these avail.I have some nice vintage mahogany veneer.I could prob make the top from mahogany and re-veneer them .I'm not a big fan of the plastic veneer!

Haha, I dig them because they are just....so.....FUN!

And yours look about like mine when I found them. Sit down, get a box of q tips and some sudsy water, and wipe everything down. The plastic bits can be removed with a philips screwdriver, and soaked in the tub with very hot water. I say VERY hot water because if you get it hot enough, it will re-moisturize the plastic.
Take your time, and clean them up. Just takes some patience.

Boozehound makes a point, but I'm going to bet you'll need to check the leads on the resistors (two of mine snapped off, very brittle wire) and also check the internal fuses.

It is NOT HARD TO DO. It will be great practice, and me and Copa already know how to do this, and we will help.

I would use this as a great learning tool. Refoaming is patience and elbow grease, and not much more than that. As for the resistors and things like that, if you can use a glue gun, and hold a soldering pen steady, YOU CAN DO IT.

More power needed in my eyes then the S 771.
The headroom with a 80W per, or more should do it.

If they are just to roched you could sell the tweets and
maybe make a dime.

I have had my 601's for 37 years nice speakers.
