Where is the best place to look for butcher's block for a Flexy-style rack for my audio gear? I haven't gone to any big box stores yet (Lowes, Home Depot) but thus far I haven't had much luck finding any locally.

I bought these birch 48"x25"x1-1/2" at Menards a few years ago. They were on sale for $50 at the time. Don't think they're that cheap anymore.
I'm no wood finisher. Stain is blotchy. Especially end grain.
Cloth filled rubber washers are worth looking for.

I have both a Lowes and a Home Depot near me. I always check out both to see what they have along with pricing when I buy wood. If you don't see what you need in the store,.just checkout there websites. I've ordered from both sites and had the items shipped to the stores near me for pickup. There is a lot more on there sites than what's in the stores.

We have a both a Lowes and a HD, but they're over the pass, about 30 miles away.
We go over there about once every 2-3 weeks for provisions..I'm going to be taking a trip over later this week, so I'll look for it then!

I like the wheels..I was thinking of doing something like that myself!
Give yourself a break on the finishing.
Birch doesn’t stain well.

Thanks. They do need quite a bit of clearance. They have a lot of swing. 4" Fully locking. Black painted were difficult to find. The load rating might be 425# each? These were off Ebay. Being able to move it loaded has been an advantage.
I think all the hardware, I got on ebay. Black oxide finished rods, nuts and washers weren't available at box stores. Nor the cloth filled rubber washers.

Black oxide hardware would be cool..But what I'm planning is going to require longer rods..4'-5' high at least.
I currently have two 10' rods I'm planning on cutting in half, not black, but I saw on another thread where a fellow had painted them himself..Looks pretty good!
I may try to paint them, or I may just leave them as they are.
Guess I'm skeptical that paint would work well. Hope it works. I assume your rods are zinc plated. If they're bare steel, maybe a bluing process. I've never done it. Don't know anything about how it's done. Gun builders do it.

That's a great idea!
I'm kind of an amateur gun builder myself, I've built several muzzleloading rifles and pistols, as well as worked on other types of firearms..So I'm familiar with the bluing process.
I don't remember if the rods are zinc or bare steel though..If they're bare, bluing would be a cool option!

Wow!! so those are 2x4 butcher blocks. Also what are the lights that you used?
The butcher blocks are 25 x 50 x 1.5 inches. The 'legs' are maple 2 x 4's and the shelf supports are 1.5 x 1.5 maple. Not something in stock at HD but you can order them. The dimensional lumber was delivered straight to my house, the butcher block I had to pick up.
The LED light strips I purchased on line. The first electronic dimmer I used did not turn off the lights 100%, they were still dim. The old style rotary dimmer works correctly, but don't really care for the aesthetics. I will deal with that later.
