I picked up the pair LX44s today for $20. They need woofer foam, but are good cosmeticly and sound pretty good. I am happy to have them for price.
Kirkendoll, what can you tell me about the woofer foam? Any advice would be appreciated.

I wanna know why people price "speakers" each? I know there is that rare moment when someone only needs one, sure, but so many people selling speakers, usually together, priced each. I don't get it.
Anyway, seems high to me. Got a set of L26 for less.

For years, speakers sold EACH in audio stores... The base BX almost all speakers were each... My first new speakers I bought in 80, I could only afford one at a time.. Went and bought one. a month later went and bought the second...

on these speakers the foam is mounted to the back of the cone and I would suggest refoaming it the same way, I thought it would be easier on the outside of the cone so the first one I did that way and it was a bitch, for some reason when the foam got in contact with the glue it would curl up off the cone, so i had to constantly keep pushing it down all the way around until it finally all settled down :thumbsdn:, the second one I did on the back side of the cone, it still curled up but it was easier since the cone was pulling against it. When it came to gluing the out side that was easy put some glue on the frame, center it using the Simply Speaker method (the same place I got the foam :thmbsp
, then put glue on the top of the foam and install the ring, and put on flat surface face down with something heavy on top and wait to dry . Hope this helps

I bought some LX55s locally for $15, refoamed them (Simply Speakers surrounds maybe?), cleaned the vinyl and grill cloths, and gave them to my son's buddy for what I invested in them. He proceeded to crank them up to abusive levels and drive insane his older neighbor lady next door whenever possible. (I decline to accept responsibility for that.) I think he really enjoys them. They sound pretty darn good for whatever we spent on them; maybe $45.

Ordered foam repair kit from Simply Speakers tonight. Thanks for the help! If the reform goes well, I will have a decent set of speakers for less than $50. Still looking for some true vintage speakers, but these will do for now and give me some re-foaming practice.

I got some JBL 2500's years ago brand new for $55. They were SUPPOSED to be $55 each, but the salesman didn't realize that.
He called me later and told me what he'd done. He said "The speakers are yours, my mistake, but please don't tell a bunch of people"
I guess I can let it out 25 years later.
I always thought it was annoying that they priced speakers seperately, but not after that day.
