Can anyone tell me about HiFiAudio?

This hifiaudio.com guy is a jerk and then some. I wanted a simple light kit for a Marantz 2216B. For the instructions promised in his ad he pointed me to a 10 year old youtube video done by a nice Eastern European who only replaced 6 of the 8 or 9 bulbs that should be in the kit.

Hifiaudio's kit was missing one of the seven needed fuse style light bulbs and included a bunch of useless LED's.

The guy seems clueless. I wanted instructions regarding replacing the "STEREO" light and I wonder if he even knew what I was talking about.

I returned the kit and bought from caddyjoe in California who also sells on eBay.
I bought a light kit from him as well, for my Yamaha 600. He showed a installation guide/manual on his Ebay listing, but yep, all I got was a link to a couple of YT videos. Disappointed, to say the least.

I would avoid HiFiAudio at all cost if you can, I recently purchased a rebuild kit from him that supposedly included Diodes, and NPN / PNP Transistors. What he doesn't say is that these parts are considered "bonus" parts that May OR MAY NOT work in your unit. Mine didn't. You don't learn this until AFTER you have received your kit. When I told him I wanted to return the kit he said there would be a 50% restocking fee, which also is not listed in his listing.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. Buyer beware!!!

On a positive note I had one interaction with peaceloveandmusic (affinity for artifacts) and it was great. I ordered a Marantz relay from him and had to return it because of a double order situation, He responded and refunded quickly, no problems. In fact I'm getting ready to order a Marantz 2250 rebuild kit from him shortly. He's got my business.

By the way if I haven't said this already. AVOID HiFiAudio!

HIFIAudio is to be avoided for kits. High NYC price and no value appart from a heap of spare caps of different mixture.
After buying into the non specific talk of the description I got a kit that's nothing to do with beyond naive apprentice/amateur restauration let alone solving common problems like certain transistors turning bad.
That's about 2 years ago. Impossible to return order unless pay very high cost, international ebay return pollicy virtually well shut and communcation edging on defensive.
By now it's probably using AI to gather tag lines from AK and assemble the "kits".
Cold business, no heart in it.

Thanks for this thread, I was this close to ordering a kit for a SA 8500.
Can anyone vouch for : Marblehead Audio or are full kits just a no-go?

I haven’t dealt with Marblehead personally but I would search the forum on that. Had a dealing with affinity for artifacts and it was great. I believe he goes by peace love and music on eBay. He seems to have a great reputation here also. Good luck!

I just ordered a Marantz 2250 kit from affinity for artifacts over on eBay. I would send him a message over on eBay and see if he can help you out. I believe he is a member here also but I don’t know his user name.

You will get a quality kit, rest assured. I have purchased many kits from him and always had quality parts. His AK handle is Eastpoint. Ben is a top notch guy.

Thanks for the updates everyone, I contacted Ben / Eastpoint and it'll be a few months before my 8500 kit would be in stock. In the meantime I've been piecing together a BOM to see how close I can get.

I had great service and support from peaceloveandmusic on a rebuild kit for a Sansui 5050
He responded quickly and was very helpful. All the right parts were there - no problems

hifiaudio.com & Mr Fantastic is trouble.
Runs the business like he does not want repeat customers
Stay Away!

My Marantz 2250 kit arrived today from peace love and music and all I can say is wow! It’s truly a complete and proper kit with all the right stuff in it. Puts the HiFiAudio kit I purchased to absolute shame. Thank you Ben! You rock!

By the way folks . Avoid Hifiaudio if you can. Not worth the hassle. Told me that if I returned his kit it was subject to a 50% restocking fee. That's listed nowhere in his eBay listing. That’s the caliber of Hifiaudio. Avoid!

I'm glad the word is getting out about Hifiaudio. That guy is my first and only negative feedback on ebay in 25 years.
I bought two pots from him, one for my Sherwood S8000III and one for my Pas2 preamp. The Sherwood pot taper is whacked but better than the totally destroyed unit that was in the Sherwood when I bought it.

The Pas2 pot rear section shorted when it was turned past 1/4 volume. The guy told be I didn't know what I was doing and ruined the pot when I installed it, told me my test equipment was junk and wasn't reading the pot correctly. After three days of insults he agreed to take the pot back. I had a gut feeing that something was up so I put a pair of small Sharpie dots on the pot before sending it back. The friggin guy sent me the same pot back and the insults started again after i complained. I left negative feedback and opened an ebay case. Two days after I left the negative feedback it disappeared. How does he get the negative feedback removed? It isn't right!

Not surprised. The guy at hifiaudio is one to be absolutely avoided. Truly dishonest.

I think the negative feedback gets removed if you get your money back. I guess ebay thinks a transaction never happened so the feedback isn't valid. I dislike ebay a lot.

I buy things I need for repairs, but other than that I stay away.
