i just want to know the reason for the demand. does it sound out of this world? 15000 dollars for a western electric tube amplifier made in the 30s should blow our socks off right?
so they can copy it and resell it to us in the west

The 300b has been copied for a few years now, nothing new there. The exclusivity of the WE 300b is in part due to the tube's construction on the original WE assembly line equipment, and the knowledge that goes along with it.
As for a 30s amp blowing your socks off, ask some of those Japanese collectors, who pay big money for WE theatre sound equipment, and the big horn speakers that go with them. They seem impressed. :yes:

Western Electric equipment.
Listen to an old movie or recording from the 30' and 40's. Most was recorded on WE equipment and most sounds like crap compared to late 40's thru 60's stuff. Single ended, distorted and bloated. No highs no lows.
It's all hype. I've got some great clothing for the King, want to buy some? People not worthy can't see it but I'm sure YOU can. Ha ha.
There was a guy hoarding WE equipment for years in VA. Bought as much as he could. Created demand and sold it all. That's good marketing! Like the brothers that hoarded silver in the seventies driving up the price.

Who said anything about recording on 30s era WE equip? That is where the majority of that crap sound originates. Try playing good source material through it.
Even if what you said had an ounce of truth in it, that has nothing to do with the capabilities of a WE 300B in a new amp with high end iron.

I can certainly see the demand and big money for WE tubes & gear...but have you checked the prices on plain old wire? Nutz.

soon they will be selling we air at crazy prices its becoming a dogmatic religioun now in asia.
i must admit though i caught glimpse of a We book while ago and was blown away at the amount and high standard of equipment the put out. it was mind boggling the few pages i looked at. we are talking about a book of hundreds of pages of equipment they put out.

Does it really matter considering it's their money to spend?
I'm not required to substatiate (a nice word for justify?) my purchases to anyone as long as the bills are paid on time.
I had a WE-built, Altec-label 755A. Made a very tidy profit on it. It sounded great, but in all honest the Goodmans Axiette 8 II is better, and at a much lower price.
Vintage Goodmans speakers are one of the best sounding speakers made.

It is simple supply and demand, as things get more scarce and as the amount of people wanting them increases so does the prices, the Telefunken 803s is a perfect example of this, nice sounding tube no doubt but not worth 7-8 times more than an all ready overpriced 12AX7 IMHO but some want the best even if it is only by 2% and are willing to pay for it.
Status plays into this also being able to brag that you have a blah blah blah to your peers helps drive up the prices, and I suppose if you want the absolute best there is, money really isn't a concern but ownership is.
I know that after listening to a Mullard 10M Master series 12AU7 and 12AT7 in my Fisher 80AZ that I would pay hundreds if needed because they really do sound that good to me, The Telefunken 801s and 802s combo sounded pretty nice also but not like the Mullards did, others of course would prefer the sound of the Telefunken's and pay whatever they had to also.
Face it their not going down in value probally ever or until something better is made.
