Ahoj.

Hi. I bought an old Quinta, so before the reconstruction I took a few pictures and drew a crossover. Contrary to what I saw, the Bass speakers and the crossover are not the same. If anyone know the circumstances please explain. Thank you PEPA

Hi,
just working on a Canton ERGO 80.
I want to restore the capaticors an the coils as well. Canton has no answer to my questions.
So I was looking for the the right values measuring:
5892 - 0,19 mH, 0,6 ohm
4875 - 0,99 mH, 0,3 ohm
6590 - 0,56 mH, 1,2 ohm
3309 - 1,80 mH, 0,3 ohm

The posted values
5892 - is missing
4875 = PK40-110-1.12 = 1.1mH / 1.12mm
6590 - is missing
3309 = FK52-210-1,12 = 2.10mH / 1.12 mm
There is a gap betwean measurment and posted values. So if someone can help with this 2:
5892 - ???
6590 - ???

Thanks in advance
Eduard

Ok,I'm posting images from Canton Nestor 802DC
One part with block capacitor 4.7uf is for tweeter and woofers, other one is for midrange.
4340-1000uf electronic
3091-47uf eloctrolitic
Other ones are turned, can't see code but values are written,100uf,12uf.
This model contains DC system(Dispacement Control), a hi pass filter and that 1000uf is part of that.
This speaks are very good built, separated chambers, lots of damping material...and sound is very very good, linear with no distortion or boomines
Hope it helps

Thanks Divu!
I have now added the 1182 and 1183 to the list.

Note to any Canton bosses or supervisors that may read this thread: Lukas Reiter is a very valuable man to us Canton friends/fans and has been extremely helpful to us. Please give him a raise in salary and keep him forever.

Cheers,
James
I asked them for schematics but don't get answers....
But maybe you could help? It's about DC (displacement controle) filter. If i understand correctly from mine crossover, every driver, mid and tweeter got signal through this. I will post pictures .
That clear wire marked with E+ and E- is from speaker conectors. W is woofers, V is mid driver,T is tweeter. There is another crossover for midrange up in chamber

Hi everyone, I can't figure out what the value of 1224 capacitor oil is (it's on the upper left).

It's a Canton XI 270's crossover:

s-l1600.jpg

I have to repair a broken crossover, but i have the following question.

On some canton capacitor is written TF-F Bipolar (like 1664),
on other is written G-F Dipolar (like 2736). Both should be electrolytic.

Actually wich is the difference between canton TF-F and G-F ? what kind of capactiros should I buy as replacement of TF-F and G-F ?

The 1664 is a 100µF/35v bi-polar electrolytic.
I don't know that the 2736 is. A photo would be useful, as well as knowing what the speaker is.

My favorite Mundorf smooth, unetched series of elcos seem to be out of production. But in principle any axial bi-polar electrolytic of the same capacitance and equal or higher voltage rating can be used to replace an elco. I personally would never replace a film cap with an elco, but electrically there is nothing against doing so.

As far as the TF-F and G-F nomenclature, they are the manufacturers series identification and I have not looked into what they mean. It's not something that you need to spend a lot of time worrying about.

Cheers,
James

This thread is amazing. I am extremely happy I found it. I have read the entire thread. Will read it again shortly. Thank you for identifying inductors 1025 and 1168. I have yet to identify 2 yellow rectangular caps (8402 and the other label might be obscured by the cabinet wall) and 3 inductors: 7808, 8392, 15842. I contacted Canton and Lukas was not helpful. He gave me no information and no reason why.

I have Canton Reference 3.2 DC, 9.2 DC, and Vento 866.2 center channel. I want to replace all caps, resistors, and inductors in all my speakers but will start with the 3.2s.

What meters should I buy in order to test all the components? Multimeter, LCR meter, transistor meter, other? Any intro crosssover reading recommendations? The frequency response curve measured flat. So I am merely trying to replace the crossover like for like. I am not attempting to change the crossover schematic.

What do I need be mindful of? Common pitfalls? It looks as if the PCBs are thin and hot glued to MDF. What's the best way to remove without destroying the PCBs?

From the pics can anyone hazard a guess as to how much these crossovers cost retail? My goal is to create dream crossovers. I want to replace the 10µF and 12µF caps with Miflex caps but the cost was getting out of hand. I am also considering Jupiter Copper Foil instead of the Miflex but that would add $600 to the already bloated cost. I want to avoid electrolytic caps. Is it possible to replace the woofer caps with caps that are not electrolytic? Suggestions? Caps for the woofers are VAC. Substitutes are VDC. Is that problematic? Does voltage matter?

Following is a list of original Canton components. In parentheses are the replacement candidates.

Oh man... very ambitious! But i can tell you some things:
First give a more images, from bass crossover and rest.
You need multimeter with capacitance, inductance and resistance reading capabilities, more expensive and professional have precisely reading.
For tweeter crossover section they used MKP capacitors from Kemet company, vitch is good. For Resistors they use MOX,vitch is good. Inductor is aircore inductor, vitch is good. On mid section they use probably MKP capacitors and MOX resistors,it's ok. On bass crossover you could change 1000uf electrolytic caps with one 470uf electrolytic and MKT/MKP rest to match 1000uf value. But i think they bypas that 1000uf with some MKT capacitor, don't know without images. Anyway you can change electrolytic caps for MKT/MKP and you don't need whole values, 30-40% electrolytic and 70-60% MKT/MKP. In bass and middle frequency you can't hear difference between MKT or MKP. Some MKT have better sound then some MKP, i tested. For inductors it is hard to say, sometimes iron cor inductors are better for lower frequency. As for resistors, MOX have better upper frequency than wirewound, but some wirewound noniductive have better sound and thermal properties. You can try, Mundorf M Resist Supreme vs MOX. I think they have better sound.
Cables are gud in your speakers.
Sometimes there is no difference between some parts, sometimes you can get worse sound when palace better parts in wrong place in crossover. But, if you have money and time buy best parts and play. You can take some gud tweeter an som full range speaker an test al parts directly and compare

@BijanBojan thank you for replying. I added 7 more pics for a total of the max 10 pics. Be careful what you ask for. :)

Unfortunately, I have not removed the crossovers so I do not have a diagram yet. Once we have the diagrams I feel that it will be more obvious how to handle the woofer caps. I have a decent budget per crossover. Humble Homemade Hifi https://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Cap.html did an incredible review of caps. The Jantzen Alumen Z will form the base caps. I will add 2 or 3 copper foil caps as the budget allows which currently are Miflex KPCU. What's in these things gold? Oh, it's just copper?!? Lol. I just don't see getting better caps than this combination without spending significantly more especially when using Duelund copper bypass caps.

You are correct. I can upgrade everything and the sound might not improve. The 3.2's are like angels singing. They are already incredible. However, I want to hear God sing. ;)

You can replace ewery electronic capacitor with MKT/MKP type if you can afford it. Technically it is better. Crossover is mounted with screws, those vitch going thru coils, unscrew them an pull crossover up.

May you live 1000 years!!! Are you sure? I thought the screws effectively turned an air core inductor into an iron core inductor. I thought Canton was trying to get greater inductance without installing a larger more expensive coil. I am not a fan of iron core inductors at all. The screw has to affect inductance no? I guarantee that every cap will be replaced. Thank you.

I'm sure, look pictures from my posts, those capsulated inductors were mounted in same way. And in my other Canton speakers is same case. And if you look a pictures from internet you can see it's the same.
