Classe CDP-202 vs. McIntosh CDP

What do people think about Classe' CDP-202 CD player (rated A+ by recent Stereophile issue) vs. MCD 201 or 301? I was disappointed to find none of MCD made the list except for the music server (class B).

I have heard an all classe system with the CDP202 and CAM400 monoblocks. The speakers were B&W 802D. I prefered my MVP871. I have to admit it's not an A/B test, but the classe doesn't have the smooth/emotional/fatigueless sound that I come to love in McIntosh.
I'm sure they are both fine players. At very high end, I believe it's down to personal preference rather than which is "better".

The speakers are Aerial 8Bs and the cables are Audience and transparent. There was greater depth and space around instruments. I am in the process of further upgrading the front end into the insane realm of higher end Esoteric gear.

Since my system is similar to yours, let me ask you ... did CDP202 produce enough weight and lower end? This is one thing reviews have brought up.

Stereophile has not reviewed any of the Mc CD spinners in some time. They only rate what they test. The MCD301 should be the highest performance single box solution for most users. It does have a neutral sonic presentation which some are not looking for.

I wonder why none of the digital sources from McIntosh Labs get reviewed anywhere - not even Absolute Sound which had glowing reviews of a couple of Mac preamp and amps . I had to try really hard to find one on-line UK review for 201.

If a magazine requests a review unit unit we usually supply it. We know many believe that McIntosh is an amp company but we often are more of a source component company.

Hi Fi Choice reviewed it in 2006 i think but not sure if it is available online. Must be I guess in some cache.

When would McIntosh website updated to replace MCD301 with 301? Any effort by Mc marketing to provide source samples to high-end magazines?

I have the cdp202 and its tough to beat in my opinion. I looked at both mcintosh and classe, mostly mc since I already owned the mt10. The rest of my system is mcintosh but I chose the classe over the mcintosh. Haven't heard the mcd301 yet but will try to soon. My amps and all just came in so I haven't heard anything in a couple months.
