I can only say that I've heard both the Cornwall IV and the Forte IV, and I liked the CW better. The CW was especially good in the midbass and midrange.
The original, with three 12" woofers and yellow midrange, tweeter, and ribbon drivers. I think that most of the drivers were from Eton; ribbon from Technics.
My only thought would be if the reduced width would produce a cabinet resonance/standing wave at a higher freq than the CW . . . (and lower in the vertical).
Klipsch says that the Cornwall IV is 38" tall; I don't know whether that includes the riser. Regardless, that puts the axis of the mid horn probably less than 30". The greater mid and tweeter horn height is another reason that I'd prefer the taller configuration.
It's possible, but likely only in the upper midrange. Crossover is at 700 Hz, where the wavelength is on the same order as the baffle width. Above that, the baffle makes very little difference because of the radiation patterns of the horns.
