:thmbsp: On what Moray said,
I have had 3 mids in my Fortes and of the 3 the Ti @ $165/pair was by far for me the winner, second up was Bob's and Bob's are less then 1/2 the cost. Bob's were quite good after 40-50hrs of play time for me, at first the stage sounded smaller to me and they had a lower dynamic impact then as the hrs poured on they bloomed out wonderfully with impact coming up to speed.
The Ti's are a whole different ball game, very smooth out of the box and nearly surreal in the their ability to follow the signal with power. I once thought I was hearing my amplifiers clip with the other mids, less so with Bob's. But the Ti is in another league all together as I was astonished at how far I had to push my amplifiers to hear them clip vs using the other mids.
An option for the Forte II is to push the tweeter crossover up using the Forte 1 coupling caps which are 1.5uf's instead of the 2uf's of the Forte II. With my Forte 1's I found no need for the bandpass. I have actually run some simulations and found the Forte 1 to be closer to the 7k crossover rather then the published 6k they claim. The Forte II specs claim 7k and running the simulation for the Forte II suggests that the 2uf caps are closer to the 6k crossover point which makes sense to me as the larger cap size has the lower high pass frequency.
Of course if you look on ALK's site the tweeter network was wrong all together. The second cap should be much higher in value. But that's not to say that a stock speaker wouldn't sound good to you subjectively.
And of course you could go with Bob's Bandpass, but its not a solution for me as I have a difficult time listening with any Iron Core Inductors as there is just to much damage to the sound IMO and I can say this because I have had a pair of stock Fortes to contrast my own modified Fortes and the difference is not in the least subtle but understand of course my source is highly modified and my amplifiers are very extreme in performance as well, so YMMV
