Dahlquist DQ-10's....

Mikey, I hear Kfa888 does a good job on refoams. He's a member and he's a local speaker piggy. Brad

Hey Brad! I actually already took them to Jamac for the refoam..... I'll contact KFA888 for the next ones, I didn't realize he was doing refoams! I have had good luck with the guys at Jamac. I walked in, showed him the woofers, and asked them to guess what speakers... The one guy said Large Advents and the owner said "Nope, Dahlquist DQ-10's!" He said he could tell by the size of the dust caps...:scratch2: They should be done by Tuesday at the latest. I'm now going to order replacement foam strips for the baffle and "black" cloth from Regnar. Getting excited guys! I remember seeing these in various higher end audio stores back in the 70's and simply drooled over them! I remember looking at the back of them and seeing the black cage with the exposed crossover, and thinking how exotic that was......of course I was about 12 at the time. After disassembly for cleaning, they are sort of strange looking with some ordinary looking drivers mounted on top. Even my wife commented on them wondering why I paid $200 for 'em! And she supports my hobby! But once the grills are back on, they are truly a stunning, exotic looking speaker!

Supports your hobby! Lucky dog.

My SO, seeing them denuded, says "It looks like someone threw them together in their garage" lol. I think they sounded even better with the grills off, but boy, are they uuuuuuuug-ly!

I think if someone took the trouble to make, say, stainless posts and the like they would look wicked cool grill-less.

Mikey, tell Bruce to go easy on the glue. The cones don't need to look like:drool:. Good Luck, Brad

Hey Brad! You were right! They did a sloppy job! Too much glue, and one dustcap isn't sitting right, even though it is glued down... I was surprised, they did the woofers on my Marantz HD-880's and they did a very nice job. This time around it's obvious that they rushed through it just to get them done. Are they terrible? No! Could I have done it better? Probably! Do they sound great? Yes! Fortunately, once the speakers are restored, the grills won't come off anyway! :)

Sorry to hear that Mikey! The same thing happened to me once. They don't do my foam anymore, I do my own. Practice on something small and buy the foam online. You get a better job... much cheaper too! Now get at that tweeter! Brad

the yahoo dahlquist user group has several drawings at their site for mirror imaging, crossover, etc. Note that their are 2 schematics for the crossover. One is for S.N. 4134 and later (C$ and C% are 6.0 uF caps) and one for pre S.N. 4134 (C4 and C5 are 6.5uF caps). Your S.N.s should be on the baffle board for the dome tweeter. Mine are pretty old and were post 4314.

I getting ready to recap mine and found all the caps (solens and Bennic) I need at Madisound.com for about $45.
