Having had most Technics models come into the shop over the years, including the SL-1401, I personally would go with the SL-1210 mk2. I have the 1210 mk2 as my go-to machine for casual listening. I find it so much easier to set up when I do a cartridge/headshell swap than with other models. If you can find 1210 mk2 in decent condition and it's within your budget - get it. You won't be disappointed.
