Denon DP80 & DP75 Owner's Thread

Haven't owned a DP-80 but have seen it noted they are 100v and the DP-75 not so you would need
a stepdown trans.

1. Have not compared, so no comment.
2. No idea. Google search of the part # should give you an idea if easily obtainable. Also, search Digi-Key and similar.
3. Yes....... the 2300 is a larger 300. I keep thinking I should get a 2300 to replace my 300.
4. No experience.
5. Where is there a ball bearing in the DP80/75? There is a single thrust ball and pad. Be quite unusual that they would need replacement unless badly abused. Read thru this thread for the various cleaning & lube & other maintenance performed without need to replace the thrust bearing parts. Clean, replacement felt and new oil for the mechanical parts.

Good luck with your choice. Still very happy with mine.

Thanks!
Do you own DP 75?
3. Do you like construction of DK 300? I was reading that the wood is heavier on DK 300 than on DK 110.
4. I have not open mine yet but I would not expect it to be much different than the one in SP 10 where a ball is pressed in a bronze casing and the thrust pad is rubbing against the ball. The ball + the casing makes the single ball bearing.

I was reading somewhere that the ball is made from alumina which is pretty hard (9). Unless thrsut pad is made from some sort of ceramic material it should eventually wear.

Have a DP80.
Am very happy with the DK100, though would like to be able to mount a 2nd TA, so the DK2300 would be even better. Very substantial plinth. I'm using IsoAcoustics Iso-Pucks under the corners and think they work well. I had my DK100 veneered in black walnut.

Have you looked back thru this entire thread? Many pic's and several references to other threads with addition pic's and info on work on the DP80/75. This includes pic's of the shaft & thrust bearing & plate and the work folks have done on refurbishing both mechanically and electronically.

I also want to mount two arms so DK2300 looks very appealing. I rushed through the thread a couple of times but I decided to go through every post and I'm on page 5 now.

What plinth are you using with it?
I got the same plinth but I was reading that DK300 was much better because it was built from the treated wood. Some engineered woods have very high damping factor (DF) for example Panzerholz has DF>0.6 when regular ply has DB of 0.04. I'm not sure they really used engineered woods as they are quite expensive.

See Pg 1 post #4 for details/pics.

I also got DK110 but was reading that DK300 was much better because it was built from the treated wood. Am guessing you will not notice the difference (if there is any in actual sonics). And, engineered wood can be MDF or plywood or............. Think you will be fine with the DK110. Much more flexible than my DK100 as far as arm fitment.

Got a citation that you can post for this? Would be interested in reading same.

Hi all, I’m pleased to have found this forum, I’m in the process of putting my dream table together at the moment. I picked a up a lead console plinth cut for a denon and a dp 75 to match with it, just looking for a tonearm now. Ideally I’ll go to a DA 304 but I’m constrained by funds a bit so if another suitable long arm shows up for the right price I’ll give it a go.
I’ll post some pics when I get a moment and keep you posted on the tonearm situation.
Cheers,
Martin

Also my understanding that main technical difference is wood species employed. More exotic/expensive went into the DK300 and why this one is more sought after. It would be interesting detail to know what exact woods went into each.

From the pic's I can find to look at it "appears" the DK-300 is made from the darker, perhaps more exotic wood than is the DK-100. Whether this translates to improved SQ is another matter. Too bad the DK-110 is not as readily available as the 300. I would very much like to try a 12" TA.

For a budget friendly good performance tonearm include a Syntec S-220 in your considerations….

I 'm getting 2300 in a couple of weeks. I will report on the subjective difference of 2300 and 110.
