Denon DP80 & DP75 Owner's Thread

I posted a few weeks ago on a new thread about the strobe display on my DP80 being blury. In case anyone has the same issue I had, where the speeds were correct and just the strobe sync was wacky, it tuned out to be a bad transistor. TR6 (2SD669A) on the schematic. The DP80 has a small separate circuit for the display. That display circuit is fed from the speed circuit.

I will happily join in here. I know there are a fair number of owners on forum sprinkled around the globe as I've heard from a number of them.

My DP-80 came with a nice vintage non-Denon two-armed plinth which had removable rear board and just a hole for a Denon arm in position 1. I had routered out a spot for an arm board in that spot and made two boards of nice flamed maple.

When my DP-80 came to me it was "brain-dead" and was completely rebuilt, something I am in the long-term grateful for - at the time "not-so-much".

Currently sporting an Audiocraft AC-400C out front and a Technics EPA 250 in the rear.

Wow. Stunning deck. I bought DP75 deck looking for plinth template. Do you have DP80 plinth template? Will it work for DP75?

Cheers,
Tom

DP-75 and DP-80 take the same plinth template. I never had a template as I bought the (old) two-armed plinth when I got the DP-80. Here is a pic of the plinth when I first got it. It would probably not be too difficult to draw out a template perhaps? You can see where the outline of the motor lines up. Note that originally I didn't have a board in the front position. Both holes were cut for Denon arms.

As fiddlefye states, DP80 & DP75 are the same physical dimensions.
When I downloaded the templates and printed I adjusted the enlargement on my printer until the dimensions were accurate on the printed sheet. Took a couple of sheets taped together to get the final template accurate enough to use. Not a big deal.

Thank you all. This is very helpful. I found DP6000 template. I will use this and adjust it accordingly. Here is DP6000 template.

That’s a very beautiful setup, would be a pinnacle system for many including me;)

It certainly is for me! The goal with the choice of arms was to create a sort of "Swiss Army" turntable that can cover all reasonable choices of carts. At some point I'll pick up one of the light tubes for the EPA so I can run highly compliant carts well. The TK-950L covers everything up through SPUs which are basically plug and play on it as it is the right geometry. Until the two-arm plinth turned up as a throw-in with the drive I never really seriously considered having a multiple-armed table. Now I can't imagine not having one.

I just thought I'd post a pic of the current evolution of my DP-80. The front arm is now a Jelco TK-950L sporting a Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua and the rear is still the EPA-250 with an AT33PTG/III mounted.

I always like seeing your 80, I like so many of the old Japanese tables but it's probably the one I'll buy eventually. I also want a two arm table and have made too many combinations in my head but the most doable cost wise is EPA 100 - Jelco 850. I actually missed three 850s the past year (two 10" - one 12") waiting for the Korf tonearm to be released thinking the Jelcos were priced high and the Korf would be lower priced...I wish I had taken the Jelco and put it in the drawer until I'll got the table, they are getting hard to find in a sensible price.

The plinth you have is the DK-2300? That's tough to find outside Yahoo auctions and in a good condition.

Very nice. Did you do the work to add the armboard? Your original pic of the plinth does not show an armboard for your 12" TA.

Here is a pic of the VTA micrometer adjustment I've added to my Stax TA. Next step is to use a Fozgometer & Wally tools to dial in and record all the settings for my carts. Changing a cart should then be a matter of setting the tracking weight & VTA to the recorded values.

BTW - the orange plastic box in the lower left of the pic is a 'laser level' that works well. No more guessing when the bubble is centered.

The plinth is some ancient custom thing made in Europe. It was a beaten-up mess, a freebie throw-in no-one wanted when I bought the drive. It was nicely built, though - Baltic birch, MDF top layer and incredibly thick walnut veneer. I am quite sure it is European, as the dimensions are all precisely metric, but it is clearly not Japanese.

As it came to me the plinth was drilled for two Denon arms, the rear one being on a board and the front being just a hole in the MDF layer with a bigger hole in the ply layers underneath. I routered out the front spot for a board, one was made from flamed maple for the spot and another for the rear. I originally picked up an Audiocraft AC-400C for the front board and put a Sumiko MMT I had out back. Then the EPA-250 came along and fortunately the hole size for that "covered many sins" and I just had to drill out a new (much bigger) hole for it. The MMT went back on the SP-15 (now sold to a happy friend).

Then late last Fall the TK-950L came up for sale at a very reasonable price and I figured I'd jump on it, prices generally having started to rise to far above what they originally sold for new when Jelco was still in operation. A friend owns the "S" version of the 850 and thought it wonderful, so why not give a TK a try? I have lots of "real estate" to work with on the plinth (the Audiocraft is already a "12" arm", but still considerably shorter) so a 12" arm seems like the appropriate response. It has turned out to be a lovely arm and the sonics remind me most of a couple of Graham Phantoms I've heard in past.

That is one lovely table! The micrometer adjuster is an incredible boon. Both arms I have on the table have that possibility now and I love it, both in terms of easing set-up chores and repeatability. I do need to get a Fozgometer sometime soon...

Just saw this with all plinths together. I'm surprised DK-2000G was less expensive and lighter in weight than DK-110.

The armboards of DK-110 & DK-300 accept 12" tonearms?

Below is my DK110 with 12" arm standing next to one of my other TT with typical size base. The Denon is true battleship.

And on a DK-2300 it is an even bigger battleship--it won't fit on my wall shelf as now constituted. Unfortunately, my DP75 fell down a tech's memory hole as tried and failed to fix its runaway speed problem. Maybe I will try another since I have the plinth . . .
