Denon DP80 & DP75 Owner's Thread

I have a question for the group here
On my used DP-75 it has the factory mat replaced by a previous owner with a Oracle
Groove Isolator. I know the recommendation is to run the factory mat that was designed specifically to work with the
platter isolation/dampening system.

Will this Oracle mat be detrimental to the sound?
I assume that a factory mat is not easy to find.
Or is it possible this mat is a good match for the drive?

Love to hear everyones comments.

I'd at least go with a mat that has (approximately) the same thickness as yours and preferably the same material (rubber). Not sure what it's like on a DP-75 but on my DP-2000 the mat is quite thick. I believe it's 6mm.

Question.....

why do they have the strobe window when they don’t have any adjustments....?

it’s quartz only, right...?

I just my DP75 back from my tech. It was running slow when I acquired it, but fortunately it only need the speed pots adjusted. The odd thing is that the strobe stays stable no matter the speed set by those pots—so I too don't see the point of the strobe. Is it just a hold over from the DP80?

Really? It's stable when running off speed?
My DP-2000 definitely doesn't do that.

Terry Mc as you wrote the Denon mat was specifically designed to work with the Denon sprung platter. I have no idea if the Oracle changes anything but I run mine with the correct factory mat and have no plans to change it out. If anyplace you might be able to find the correct mat in Japan from a parts table.

Could anyone with a DK-2000 please give me the width depth measurements?, I've ordered an dp80 with the dk2000 and I know it will not fit my current stand and I would like to get one built before it gets here.
Thanks in advance

Replaced the mat on my DP-80 with this one. Can't say I've noticed any difference in the sonics, but it is more pliable than the 40yr+ original.

Does anyone know whether or not a DP-75/80 or 6000/7000 can fit in a DP-2550 plinth?

It looks like the shape is the same but my plinth has a little more wood cut out than those all need but with the screw holes in the same place I'd think it would fit but I have yet to have someone verify this for me.

Here's a photo of the stripped plinth when I was restoring the TT.

MX117 that has been my experience both on my DP-75 and other tables, I haven't heard any improvement in the sound quality over the original factory mat. Denon states in their literature that the factory mat is part of the split platter design which updates the DP-75/80 over the two prior models the DP-6000/7000. My DP-75 mat is the original and pliable being the same age. Possibly you are interpreting the thickness and weight of the factory DP-80 mat as being less pliable compared to a thinner lighter aftermarket mat.

Nope. Same thickness. Made sure of that before purchasing.
Also, the foam between the 2-piece platter was almost dust in mine so was replaced with Dynamat. Who knows what change that made? All I know is it sounds great.

Ended up picking up a DP-80, DK-300, and a SME 3009 S2 Improved from YAJ. For anyone else looking to do what I (and many others) did, keep in mind the shipping costs are pretty high. I paid more for the shipping than I did the DP-80 and DK-300.

K&E let us know how it sounds, cartridge choice for SME arm? Cost of shipping high due to fuel prices, no way around proper packaging weight/size unless you want to chance damage in transit. All added up a lot of table for the money.

The tonearm is coming with a Shure M95ED, however I may need to replace it. I'm up for cartridge suggestions.

Thx. Bought mine off eBay, which included free shipping.
I don't want to toot horns or anything so please don't take it like that.

I ended up picking up the DP-80 and the DK-300 for $130 USD. Shipping was $200 but that's mostly because I think it weighs around 50 pounds all said. Comparing that to eBay prices, I was told I got a good deal, but maybe not.

At any rate I'm happy with it.
