Denon DP80 & DP75 Owner's Thread

Forget the model # Denon plinth for the DP-75/80 that looked like it was covered in a leather like material with metal trim on the edges. Anyone remember?

Thanks Mark re the DK-200, might not be my first choice style wise but I'm sure as good as the other factory Denon multi layer plinths. Seen a few of aftermarket plinths some using different materials, they appear to be at least as good as the factory Denon plinths.

The Denon plinths also use different materials, their weight shows that. I went with a Denon plinth because it was affordable and also heavyweight, the Acoustand that was my first choice would have cost double the money of the total (motor + 2 arms)!

I also have a resinamatic sound plinith and to me it does sound more detailed than the denon plinith, might be better, might be worse, but it is a different sound.

As I don't use a plinth, I forgot...

I have Denon's original template for the cut-out. My DP-80 came with all associated documents. It's not a sketch, it's a precise engineering diagram at 1:1 scale. "Intricate", as Legrace describes it. I think it was intended for radio stations: lay it flat on the console and trace through it, then cut. Easy with a saber-saw (jigsaw) — unless you're making a plinth from slate or a meteorite.

If it's of use to anyone, I can dupe it. It will have to be a photo, scaled down. But the correct dimensions/
distances are on the template — it's easy to calculate the % enlargement. I've printed a few arm-mount templates and protractors and the print-outs are exact.

Let me know. It'll take some time. I must find the folder, and the time, and set up to shoot it so there's no parallax or spherical distortion; not difficult, but not a speedy process.
Though your post is dated, would you be so kind and post the link for the cut out. Thank you

It's on the Vinyl Engine listing for the DP-80 along with a brochure, owner's manual & service manual. You must be a member to download. If you are not all ready a member, it is free to become one. Here is a link, but you can't open the individual downloads unless you are a member. https://www.vinylengine.com/library/denon/dp-80.shtml

I think the DK-200
Yes. Believe you are correct. https://www.turntableneedles.com/De...-_Misc_Instant_PDF_Download_Japanese_Brochure

Thanks appreciate it

Hi, I am the owner of a Denon dp-80 which has a speed issue I'm hoping someone might have some information on how to fix. The speed fluctuates in variable mode and in quartz lock is going much faster than it should. Also there is a rumbling/knocking type sound it makes in quartz but which goes away in variable. I've had this TT for 15 years with zero problems until now so maybe does it just need a recap or could this be some other issue? Any help appreciated

Have you cleaned and relubed all the mechanical portion (bearing, etc.)?
I'll guess that may be part of the problem, but not all, based on your symptoms. A recap may be in order.
Assume you are running it on 100vac.

Yes, it has always been used with a step down transformer on 100vac. Have not tried to relube the bearing but it seems to spin fine on variable mode, the knocking sound only appears when set to quartz lock so I'm assuming it's something else?

Those were exactly the symptoms mine had about 2yr ago (after a lube & recap). I took to my tech and he could find nothing wrong. Since he had it he changed the strobe bulb to LEDs, but said he did nothing else. I wonder if it might be an interaction with the strobe circuit (I have not looked at the schematic to see if that is possible). But, It has been perfect since.

I would try to adjust VR1, might solve the problem in quartz mode going faster. If you have a 2 channel oscilloscope you can calibrate the DP80 speed; otherwise just put in quartz lock, 33RPM, move VR1 just a little bit either ways, while looking in the strobo, and see if get it locked.

Try to clean and adjust VR1 and VR2. If that does not work and the magnetic gap is still good, an index card is the perfect thickness, you will need a recap. If recap does not work, one or more of the transisters could be bad. I had all these issues with the three I have.

Does anyone know what size mounting screws the Denon plinths take (DK-300, DK-110, etc.)?

I need to purchase some and don’t have any to measure.

And I thought the only difference between the DP-75 and DP-80 is (like the Yamaha D8 & D10) the quartz-lock feature of the DP-80 (and D10).
Dp-75 switchable 100-240v and 50/60hz while dp-80 only 100v ... you will see all dp80 projects needing step down xformer to 100v cos internal circuitry still requires 100v.

I will be glad to be corrected as I WAS trying to swap to 230/240v transformer to avoid step down.

Cheers.
