Denon DP80 & DP75 Owner's Thread

Btw, any reason why DP-80 is not used with sme iv tonearm that I have as spare while an available sme 3012R cannot fit the dk300 plinth with dp80 ? I hope to avoid needing to spend $ on some the nicely recommended ones here e.g. DA-401/2, 307/308/309 here ? Thanks in advance

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but a 12" tonearm will not fit on the DK-300 plinth due to the armboard location. It is simply too long. Your 9" SME IV will fit with no problem and a 10" would also likely fit. I know of a very nice DP-80 in a DK-300 plinth with two spare armboards if anyone is looking.

Thanks ! Understand the space constraint of dk300 with 12" tonearms due to the dustcover while I did see one with seller with a 12" DA-308 .. not sure if he had mess up overhang etc. but seems both the front and rear of D308 cleared the dustcover.

I have a dp-80 with dk300 plinth being shipped from Japan and only have a spare sme iv tonearm to use with it and was wondering if ok with the right cartridge to tonearm e.g. oc9/ii spare which I have ... I had not seen any dp-80 with sme iv being mentioned here .. not matching for SQ ?

Hope this clarifies and thanks again.

Let's start over now that you posted the link. I do not believe that is a 12" 308, but rather a 10". I went downstairs and pulled my DP-80 in a DK-300 off the shelf and took the two attached pic's. The spindle to pivot distance for all 12" TA's I'm aware of is in the 310-330mm range. That would put the pivot point for same in the far back corner of the armboard, about where that mounting screws is located.

You should have no problem fitting your SME IV. Making a new armboard is no big deal, either. Drilling/cutting the SME cutout is a bit more effort. Setting & aligning the tonearm and most any cartridge should be straight-forward, as well. Any needed templates are available in the VinylEngine library. I use washers from Herbie's between the armboard and plinth at each corner (shown in the pic).

I also pulled out one of the TT-to-plinth mounting screws and it looks nothing like the wood-screw posted above. It is a straight 8-32 machine screw that is 1.25" in length. I did measure it with a digital vernier and in mm it is 32.36mm long and the outside diameter of the threads is 3.85mm. I did run it into my standard screw size and works fine into the 8-32 threads. I could not find my metric sizer, but seems more like a M4 machine screw.

Thanks and sorry for the trouble .. appreciated trouble.

Still hope to understand if sme iv is a mismatch as other mentioned seems superlative and shared frequently.

Cheers.

Dp-75 switchable 100-240v and 50/60hz while dp-80 only 100v ... you will see all dp80 projects needing step down xformer to 100v cos internal circuitry still requires 100v.

I will be glad to be corrected as I WAS trying to swap to 230/240v transformer to avoid step down.

Cheers.

I’ve never had a DP 75 with switchable voltage, only 50/60 Hz selection…..maybe imports to particular country had a voltage switch?

Remember seeing in Denon advertising material a listing of Denon's own step down transformer for the DP-75/80. Excellent quality Japan made step downs are available at a reasonable price that work excellent as intended.

Yes, the DP75 had various versions, with and without the voltage switch. You can see it in the schematics or in the Denon catalog available on Vinyl Engine.

Hi Andy,

Indeed and sorry for any confusion caused .. unfortunately I failed to get back to the photo with voltage selector seen of such a variant as what claneg had also shared and could only find enclosed and the link:

Is yours from Japan or bought in usa ?

Cheers.

Meanwhile, I had prepared a tiny 35VA step down transformer that I had installed in both my dp-47f to be similarly hide inside the dk-300 plinth being shipped with the dp-80 from Japan. You can get these Kashimura transformer from Japan at half the price of usd23 compared to ebay sellers like below link:

I mounted rca and power connector plates on the plinth of the dp-47f and will attempt to do the same on the dk-300 as I do not wish for dangling wires as well as make use of available rca interconnects and powercords.

Cheers.

I am keeping my fingercrossed on spent usd380 for reported "serviced 1 year ago" dp80 and dk300 without tonearm and cartridge but 3 spare armboards via www.Sendico.com which I had thought is a good quick deal with expected usd200 or usd600 for shipping via fedex to Singapore due to their weight.

Should have some fun with needed cleaning up of plinth, foam replacement of platter, bearing cleanup and oil replacement as well as recapping it as learned thankfully from past and present owners in this thread.

Past analog playback history includes michell orbe, gyrodec, garrard 301, 401, sme v, sme iv, sme iv.v, rb300, sme 3012R vdh black beauty, grasshopper, At OC9/ii when gainfully employed but retired 3 yrs ago and now more prudent with finances to have recently bought 2x denon dp-47f with dl80 and dl300 mk2 that I find a joy with its "full automation" since no longer into squeezing last ounce of SQ.

Cheers.

Hey Andy,

Found it in post #72 nicely provided by Bichitus. Yes, 3rd time reading from post #1 to prepare myself for my DP-80 and DK-300. Cheers.

Received my dp-80 and dk300 plinth from Japan via fedex in 2 huge boxes and powered up the dp-80 with good news .. seeming running fine ...smoothly and quietly with the Kishimura 35va transfomer.

Motor body looks fine with 2 small pin dents that does not bother me but the platter was oxidised and need an hour of elbow grease with 3M maroon fine scotchbrite used for my Titanium bikes ... till almost perfection with planned ceramic coating later.

Cheers.
