Dual 1009

I have this dual 1009,after doing some cleaning on it platter is turning opposite way then before,what could be wrong and how to fix it,thanks for any help

No expert here but you may have a bad capacitor.

It was working proper before cleaning ,anyone set one these in massive plywood plinths to and got better sound results?thanks

I looked at my 1009 and it uses a 10,000pf (.01uf) 700v capacitor. The service manual refers to it as a condenser so it may be a start up component but at .01uf and across the AC leads it may serve as a sort of spark arrester. Again, we need to hear from someone who knows.

No, that capacitor is not what's wrong. It's a transient suppressor.

Did you take the motor apart? If so, when you put it together, did you assemble it with the stator (the part with the windings and laminations) upside down?

That will make the motor run in reverse, for sure. It's not that hard to get mixed up, on the round Dual motor (among the best in the business...puts the newer
Dual rectangular motors to shame). I scribe lines in the stator and endcaps so that if it winds up inverted, they won't line up on reassembly.

First thing that came to my mind is something got put in backwards. Maybe listing everything you took apart and what you did could help the person that will give you the real answer. Just a suggestion.

I just picked up a 1009 myself and I'm planning on cleaning it up. I will be lurking on this thread for the info. Good luck.

Yeah, the OP mentioned "some cleaning" but not exactly what was disassembled.

Thing is, the motor (on mine anyway) is hard wired with no plug to reverse.

I don't see how anything but the motor running backwards could cause the platter to rotate backward since there is a direct link between the motor, the spindle, the idler and finally the platter rim. None of the auto mechanisms should affect this. :scratch2:

I really have no idea, like I said I just picked one up the other day. That was just the first thing I thought and figured I should toss it out there. They mystery of the reversed turntable continues.

Guys,indeed i took motor apart,that must be it ,what GP-49 mention about putting stator upside down,thanks i learned something new,what i am looking for is to use it (since that motor is so great and 7lb platter) as transport with different tonearm maybe Altmann,set it in heavy plinth without suspension and see what is going to happen,thanks for clues about motor

The duals never seemed popular for mods and tweaks. I don't completely understand why but I always figured there must be some good reasons.

I'll be very interested in how your project/experimenting goes. Please post your findings!

Another question about motor,motor is not spinning at all now,I replaced 0.01 uf cap in junction but no effect,also power cable does not have 4 pin molex,how should i wire in power cable into existing molex socket,also does that blacck junction box has wired switch trigerring motor to move?maybe that motor is bad how to check it wit votometer or else?Thanks
