Dual experts..... what's the difference between these machines? Was a 1218 "that much" below a 1219 in quality? I've never see a 1218 up close.

the biggest comparison that I know of is the size. The 1219 uses the full 12" platter, the 1218 uses the 10" platter found on every 12xx up to and including the 1218.
I'm pretty sure the 1218 also has the better tonearm of the 10" models, similar to the one found on the 1219.
