Eddie Van Halen Music Appreciation Thread

I sat third row Eddies side for the Dallas show on this tour. (would've been nice if they had given him a bit of camera time)

I'd like to know how he got Peavy's to be clean when not playing, with all that gain cranked up.

Anyone I've ever known that played a Peavy with the gain way up had terrible, uncontrollable feedback when there was no signal from the guitar.

There are some great tributes and material on the guitar forums. Its conceivable that there hasn't been a non-singer musician that has impacted the planet more, than EVH in recent history. Its possible no one will ever do that again.

Related to AK, VH albums were better harder rock discs for audiophiles in their day.

I remember the first few times I heard runnin w/the devil...I couldnt believe all of the screaming
:p

Opening sound is car horns yanked from their vehicles and stuck on a board. Seems like something Fat Albert's Junkyard Band would do but in this band is sounds like the end of the world is nigh. Creating something from nothing is a recurring theme.

EVH on EC ca. Wheels of Fire:

Besides the normal airplay of the first few albums, I came on board with Diver Down in 1982.

The Pretty Woman cover (with Intruder intro) hooked me.

Then I was introduced to deeper cuts from the first several albums over the next couple years.

I actually did not care for 1984 or really any thing thereafter. (and I was a Sammy Hagar fan well before I Can't Drive 55)

I think my favorite album may be Fair Warning, with Women And Children First a close second.

Right there.
These are the two most original and EVH albums of the bunch.
A true look at what he could do from a writing and creative standpoint.
Ironically, these two were overlooked somewhat when new because I was so young.
Now I view them as the high-point of the catalog.
I also feel the Hagar years are vastly underrated...
