EPI M100 before and after

One of my weekend projects was this pair of M100s I picked up late last year. I'm not done yet but boy do they look better without that weird black paint on them.

I'm curious if this looks like an original capacitor in here? It's a 10uf and I think 8 was the norm. I also don't think the style is original. I might replace it anyway and I think I will install some better terminals as well.

Nice job, they are looking good. The cap looks original, it's just one 10uf cap so an easy change. Got to be the simplest crossover ever.

Yes it does appear those are original caps. Easy for sure on that one.

I want to treat the rubber surrounds and I have some 303 that I know some use, but others suggest DOT 3 brake fluid. Since I don't have to buy anything if I use the 303 I'm tempted but has anyone got a preference?

Looks great. It's hard to tell in the pics, is that oil or poly?

I think it's tung oil. I was using it on something else around that time too.

I later changed all the drivers. They have the appropriate woofers from Human Speakers and the newer EPI tweeters with the gold ring.

Maybe I'll finally go get the screws I need. I plan to glue magnets to my covers and have black flat head screws in the corners that they will stick to.

Why did you change from Masonite tweeters to the gold rings? Everyone that's heard both (and honestly, I haven't) says the masonite ones are preferable.

Acoustic Research used the Callins brand capacitors too. My AR90's had them. While I never had any leaking caps, many did report this issue with Callins. They don't hold up well sonically either. They get dark, rolled off, and muddy sounding. Please replace them...!

The appearance mostly as I used them without covers for years. I think they sound fine.

That was done years ago. :)
