My grand-daughter wants a TT for her B'day. I've got a Dual 1009 which she can have, but am wondering what would be a good, rugged cartridge for her TT? Any suggestions?

Stanton 680E.V3. Last I checked, you could get one brandy new for 30 bucks on amazon. Its a "DJ" cartridge, but sounds fine and tracks at 2-5 grams. Its a fairly fat cantilever too, so it should be resistant to breakage. I don't know if you can actually get a stylus for these though, or at least not for less than the whole cart costs. I run one on a Garrard Type A-II with good results.

Red Ed or the MG29 from VMAudioEnthusiasts. Both are under $15 for cart/stylus. That's what I use on any of the TTs that My kids have access to. It's so cheap it's practically disposable. I order 2-3 styli at a time, just to have them handy.
And what's cool is this is actually a pretty good sounding cart. I used them exclusively for the first couple years I was in to records.
