I loved 'em back when and got to see 'em live a few times between 1971 and 1976... likes the '71-72/3 shows morethan what followed. Great loud and -- as @91firebird wrote -- foot-stompin' tunes.

PS: I think the reason I liked the older material is that it was more Farner, less Brewer, oriented, espcially the vocals. Yeah yeah, Brewer is The Voice of the number "We're An American Band" and all that jazz, but I preferred Farner's sound, e.g., "Heartbreaker" and "Inside Lookin' Out".

By the time of the album Shinin' On (1974), I'd sorta checking out of all current/new things GFR. But the albums from '69 - '73 are pretty good.

I remember having their first couple of albums and playing them to death. I also remember that they were at the top of the list of music I listened to that my parents hated.

I've been getting into them quite a bit lately. When I was coming up the local radio station played "We're an American Band" and "I'm Your Captain" but not much else. I never really gave them a chance based on those songs. In typical fashion they never played the good stuff on the radio. I pretty much love their first 3 albums front to back, they rock.

The only album of theirs I had was survival and I played it quite a bit in the early 70's. Havent seen it for years so it must be in my scratched to **** pile. Always liked their version of give me shelter

Listened to this album from Amazon streaming recently into good headphones and headphone amp and really liked it.

The SQ of the remastered album was excellent compared to my memories of blasting this loud in my dorm room back in the day.

I played the heck out of this in college, but I think my record was stolen.

I've always been a casual fan, a greatest hits type of fan, but I heard "People Let's Stop The War" for the first time a few months ago and was blown away. Amazing.

Monster Magnet turned me on with their fine cover of "Sin's a Good Man's Brother".

Then I heard the original. Also very good.

Pretty much a local band here, so caught their act a few times. Much maligned band ... yes, they actually DID know how to play! You just had to learn how to hear them! ;-}

Wasn't hardly a Grand Trunk Railroad overpass here that didn't get FUNKED in the night ...
