Can anyone local recommend some good record stores to check out? Primarily interested in Jazz vinyl.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to Texas, and especially Austin. As you probably know, Austin is known as "The Live Music Capitol." As such, there just aren't any stores to buy recorded music. Recorded music is frowned upon by the locals. But, there are plenty of places to hear music in a superior format, live. Please enjoy your stay!

For the humor impared, this is in jest.

Waterloo Records, for just about everything.
Cheapo discs for your used audio needs.
End of an Ear
Antone's Record shop for all your Blues needs

There are more, but these three are fantastic!

Backspin records is probably the best all round, followed by Antones but you will find more jazz at Antones.

You need to visit Waterloo at 6th and Lamar. They're the "biggest" in town and they're just a great store all around. Lots of college kids in there but don't let that turn you away.

Encore on Anderson up north specializes in metal, but they have a lot of indie stuff. Their selection of new vinyl is growing and that's where I buy most of my records these days. It helps that they're 3 blocks from my house.

End of an Ear on S. 1st is a fantastic indie store. I love that place. I used to live close to it and I used to spend a lot of money there.

Breakaway Records on North Loop is a 100% vinyl store. Mostly used with occasional new mixed in. They carry a wide selection (of used) so I imagine you can find something there. There's a good coffee shop next door.

Backspin Records has lots of vinyl too. In fact, they may be all vinyl. I've only been once.

I've never been to Antone's but I suspect that's a good place to find jazz. I'm sure they'll be rich in blues albums, being as they're Antone's.

Another plug for Waterloo on 6th.
New and used CDs, new and used vinyl.
El Cheapo is on Lamar up a few blocks and is pretty...cheapo.

And as Kris mentioned, do see some live music while you're here.

End of an Ear is a good store, which has a decent selection and occasionally really good prices. Be sure to look under the normal record rack for the cheapo records.

You get a free bag if you buy >$100, but I didn't want the bag so they gave me a tshirt instead.
