Thinking a bit further along these lines, vinyl SNR is about 75dB on a good day. So that's another 45dB poorer, or roughly 200x. Which brings the mechanical resolution up to about 200nm, or 0.2 microns. That's starting to sound fairly reasonable...

I thought DSOTM was boring and pretentious when it was first issued. Since then I've tried to listen to several different versions culminating in the last "newly remastered" version which I bought. My initial impression still stands.
As for the new medium, thanks but no thanks.

So they coat the nitrocellulose in SiO2 or beryl, probably using CVD. Nice hard surface.
I wonder what that will do to a diamond stylus longevity...
Also sounds like they intend it to be a very niche, expensive product, not for the masses. A sort of fungible NFT...

Pono did not propose or support a new format. It was about higher quality playback. MP3's were not part of the scheme.
Yeah, I know. But the others are all formats.
I actually thought the Pono was a good idea, I would have bought one, if it wasn't for the triangular shape, not the best ergonomics.
I also thought DVD-A was a good idea, I have a player and a few discs, I prefer it over SACD.

Would that be because you can access the digital signal over Coax?
No, never had a reason to do that. I just happened to think that PCM is a better approach.

It's simply an old fashioned acetate. The rest is just pure T-Bone hype.
Only one copy made.
Close to $1.8 million at auction.
