Maybe search "corner horns". My analogy would be driving all the way to work in first gear. You can do it but it's not really good for the car and it doesn't really give you a fair picture of the car.
Yeah it's a corner basshorn and could function quite similary to a khorn depending on driver data and the like. It's actually a deeper, skinnier folding which would "appear" smaller in a room than a khorn. I actually kind of like it. You could get 2" phenolic compression drivers and biggish 4-bolt horns to swap in for the midrange and be closer if--and it's a big if--the phillips and the horn design mate well enough to be worth it. And the xo would likely need some changing. But you won't know that w/o trying one in a corner. That was partly why I asked about the xo--there really haven't been that many variations in xo's over the time those things have been 3-ways. I mean, think about the price of khorns and the wood & labor and such into the design/build. But corners are important--they're part of the horn and that's designed-in. https://trueaudio.com/st_spcs1.htm
One corner isn't that hard to find if sound is important. Lots of people with khorns have been building false corners for ages. See the klipsch forum for examples. EV built part of them as "dress cabs" and now klipsch does it as well. Even PWK didn't have corners in his house. If you're anywhere near Victoria, search for planet10 hifi and touch base. It's not in his wheelhouse, but he's an old audio guy who might serve as some local help in your efforts.
Don't get me wrong, there's cause for skepticism and they're quite different than real khorns, but the guy who designed that may have had it covered (or covered well-enough to suit function and budget).
It's a horn isn't it? Those openings in the back are the horn mouth correct? If those are just for looks then you don't have a horn, and it is sealed as you are stating. If they are horn mouths, it isn't sealed.
