How expensive are replacement V-fet's?

A shop I hang at sold a B1 to Abbey Road Studio a few years back.
I am not surprised.

I can't speak on the Sony, but the B1 does not like a 4ohm load!

No V-fet amps like loads lower than 4r. I have not used mine with 4r speakers, but the B-1 and B-2 take 4r on the bench.
I am breaking-in a rebuilt B-1 with a set of 6r speakers and I am pushing it hard for over one week. It didn't hick-up once.

So the B1 is a step up from B2? Where does the Sony TAN-5550 fit in there?

I do not have a 5550, but I am assuming that it would sound similar to the 8550. I have those and they sound every bit as good as the B-2s.
Disclaimer: I like all v-fet amps, so I am biased to tell you that they all sound good after proper maintenance. I think you should ask someone else that is not so "high" on these things.

It's been a long time since I've been on AK, but I'm happy to find that people are still talking about Vfets.
I have a Sony 8550 and a Yamaha B2 that Echowars rebuilt several yeas ago. They have had few hours on them since.
I also have three Sony 5550's that I would like to have EW's preventive-maintenace service changes performed
Has something happened to Glenn? I tried to contact him about servicing them and never got any reply. One of the notes in this thread referenced his absence.
I haven't searched yet, but there used to be threads that described the process and the needed replacement parts. Can someone point me towards those?
Thanks, it's good to be back.

Hi acalunas1 and welcome back! Sadly, Glenn has mostly disappeared from AK for what I believe are personal reasons.

I happen to have a preference for the Yamaha V-FET amps so I can't help you much as far as your Sonys go but I know there's tons of info here on AK that a simple search should expose and I'm sure it won't take long for other Sony 5550 owners to chime in with help.

Cheers and good luck!
