How many power amps is too many?

Well, you definitely like a certain era! I always wanted a pair of MC100s just 'cuz.

What the heck, here are the preamps: C24, C26, C32, C504, MX117.

And the integrateds: MA5100, MA6200.

And the receiver: Stereotech 1200.

I am in a similar position as the original poster.
I ave ended up with 11 Mac amps.
That is not including the MHT200 wich has several built in amps - but that is not a "pure" amp.
I have some "entry level" receivers, but they are not "pure" amps.
My problem is that my wife and I have moved into an apartment in a retirement center. Thus space is VERY limited. Using KLH Model Nine speakers (24" wide each) and a 77" OLED Sony TV, with a mahogany credenza (exact width of the TV) holding seventeen electornics components under the TV. The system takes up one whole wall of the apartment.
There are several amps in closets, and some still at my old office.
At age 80 I cannot lift the MC2500s, the MC2255s, the MC2205s, or the MC7270s. Which takes away the audio enthusiast joy of swapping out amps to find out which sounds the best - i.e., I cannot even lift them. The one amp I can lift is a MC2505.
Currently I am using two MC2255s (which I had to get my grandsons to move) driving the KLH Model Nines. That combination gives me sufflcient clarity and definition (plus more bottom end than I expected from electrostatics), and I really do want to make any changes.
At one time I thought I would give my son and grandsons the Mac gear as an inheritance, but (as is the case with many of the new generation) their definition of good sound is mp3 through cheap earbuds.
So I may end up selling everything except what I use every day.
For the original poster, my answer would be one always needs amps more than one currently has.

I'm sure it won't be hard to find new homes for each of the pieces you're no longer using. My advice to you would be to do that sooner rather than later ... I just went through this with the family of my best friend who passed unexpectedly earlier this year and had an enormous audio collection.

It's inevitable I suppose that we all must face this as we enter our twilight years. I wonder if I'll know when it's time ...

I just turned 70. I'm in pretty good shape physically (Can't really lift my '452. OR the '500 by myself, though) but I know that I am at the point in life, where my possessions own ME, instead of the other way around. I have more guitar amps, (AND Guitars) than stereo equipment, and the time is coming soon, when I either part with this stuff, or it becomes someone else's mess.
(That being said, the Mc2200 purchase, was recent)

68 here and I've pared down a lot of my excess gear. A couple months ago I had to flip one of my 1201's over; then lift all 147lbs of it and shake it to get a screw out of it's innards. I am at the end of the line for ever doing that again. Carrying my mc2255 up 2 flights of stairs really got the ticker pumping so that had to go. The 2500's weren't too bad; not pleasant to move but manageable 6 years ago when they left. Presently I'm down to just the 1201's, an mc2125 and a Proton d1200 which may replace the 1201's when it's time. Thankfully it's not quite time yet

It was and it wasn't if that makes any sense. I didn't want it to just sit around but I hate to see it go at the same time. I think it's going to a good home so part is a relief.

I must say, the only thing I regret here is that I was unable to coordinate a trip to meet you in person. You're a gem Mike and I'm fortunate to call you a friend.

I have 16 channels. TWO MC 830's for the Stereo and two MC 207's for the tri and bi amped front three channels and 4 channels for the rear and side speakers. No subs. All front speakers reach to 25 HZ.

Hell no....! Way more into SS over tubes. More punch and dynamic. AB test 250's 2100's instead of tubes, SS better. Moon Shadow on tubes better if you wanna go sweepy pie but...

I have a room of stuff and only two are receivers (both I got free from friends or neighbors). Most are power amps and preamps. I was thinking of getting rid of the tube mono blocks but they are still on the shelf. Oh well. Too bad none of the kids want them (I did give a pair of maggies to one son).
