I. Neil Peart of Rush passes Away at 67

A bit too soon, I feel. I know the trio were all buddies. My thoughts are with family/friends.

RIP, Mr. Peart. You inspired an army of air drummers.

So glad I had the honor of seeing him in concert 4 times, the last time with my son. Another member of the rock and roll band in heaven.

A slight shock, to be honest. This is for drummers like geetarists awakening to the news of, say, Clapton's passing.

Beyond the heart of Rush, Peart was the heart of much of what is PROG over the last 40, if not more, years.

Beyond the drumming (which was pretty darn amazing), he wrote the lyrics to many of their songs.

He should be remembered for that as well as his technical prowess. One of those guys you would like to spend an evening with BS'ing about the world on a Passage to Bangkok...and maybe with a little port.

One contribution Neil Peart made toward my audio gear was my choice of headphones. My old beloved Pioneer’s gave up and was looking for new cans that I mainly used for drum practice. I read that Neil Peart used pedestrian but slightly modified Audio Technica M50’s on stage. I figured he could use any headphone on the planet and he choose the M50’s, that was good enough for me. I listened to 2112 through them last night, awesome!

Cool, my current Avatar shows The Professor wearing his dual cup M50's on stage. I guess he suffered an ear infection(s) using IEM's, (in ear monitors). Still hasn't sunk in that he's gone. First Ginger Baker, now Neil Peart! At least he, and Rush, made into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame before he passed.

I would like to recommend a CD from the mid nineties that was produced by Neil Peart. It's called Burning for Buddy, A tribute to The Music of Buddy Rich. Many top notch drummers on this, including Neil, backing Buddy Rich's band. One stand out song is "Pick up the Pieces," an Average White Band tune. Awesome, especially the ending! I guess there is a Vol 2 but I haven't been able to get my hands on that one.

I have somehow managed to float through this life enjoying Rush but never owning any of their music. I changed that all tonight, bought several of their albums.

As others have mentioned, Neil wore AT M50's, so I'll be catching up with my M50's when my albums arrive.
