Good stuff. Interesting as I also live in the Minneapolis area and have easily have bought and sold at least three pairs of Infinity RS4000's. They seem to be everywhere!I own a couple pairs of RS 4000 just because. I was selling them in Minneapolis/ST Paul in the 88-91 period that both the RS4000 and RS -4001 were out it was a blood bath as Highland superstores had moved into bestbuy's back yard. Highland pludded one of the guttiest moves I have every seen. The put all there audio that they could get away with at 10 to 15 %over net cost at pair of RS3000 for 99.00 new RS 4000 for 220 and the RS 5000 for about 250. There were other speakers brands(bore made us pull the 901 of the sales floor) But the infinity at that time has excellent right up from do same publications. And Minneapolis being a computer town and defence contractor at the time, there were a over abundance of engineers who knew more than most sale people on how these speakers work. Remember that infinity had already been sold. They were part of Harmon I beleiv e. At that time new speaker tech was all over the place. But all the complaints I read on AK just never came up we (@ highland ) had kind of an" do what you have to" to close the sale. We let customer hook up way over powered amps to these infinity and never blew out the Emits. As long as you did not crank the bass it leave the "loudness "button in they are the best sounding consumer speakers we sold. Yes hard core AK'er. Consumer speakers. These were not made to compete with the kappas with Watkins woofers. Or the oversized emits from the older product lines. There were and are supposed to be what they were .a mid priced speaker capable of reproduction of most hard to deal with music. They were not for hard rock. That was the SM models these were for sade, stanley jordan, the Minnesota symphony from the U of M .there are perfect speaker for woodwind and brass horns. Kettle drums. With no background distortion. Now for all the praise I put on these .they were out for 2 years. Yet 30 years later they are still all over the USA. Do these sound as goog as my AL 846u I sold last summer. Of course not.but the horn on that speaker was worth more than a pair of the 4000. And I have tried putting name brand paper woofers in the 5000 .they sounded like **** even with an eq and a new cap for the low end. The infinity were a great design for the time. That time is over. If you can get a good cosmetic pair of 3000/4000/5000 it's easy to get the parts to make a wonderful sounding paid of speaking for classical ,jazz, new .Age,even techno. But if you see a pair at a decent price grab it as fast as you can. Many AK'ers are very critical of a lot of production style speakers. So what .there ears are no you ears. Listen your self.
No I do not post much on AK. But I started selling at the end of of the power wars of the 70s. Good listening .my audio friends.
I picked up set in very nice condition about six months ago at a thrift for $20.I just had the mids and tweeters refoamed.Waiting til next week to run them with. nakamichi sr-3a.If you have your still what do you power them with?Old but still relevant, whomever stamps the rs4000 as a “generic big box speaker”
I cannot and will not take serious, clearly they never ever auditioned them. The emit tweeters are still today, one of the best tweeters (especially considering price) you can possibly get.
now of course these are compromised model speaker. You cannot expect irs or kappa or sigma quality out of them. But for what these are? Boom bass?! Are you kidding me, these are similar drivers being used in the rs4 /rs4b the emit itself is superior to any dome tweeter I can think of.
Don’t let a forum with subpar knowledgeable people like you see a page back, dictate what’s worth it or not. They are clueless,,the emits alone would have been worth it especially today ! I would still spend 200usd on a good set in a heartbeat .

And your point is? Do realize that speakers especially the older nudell era ones. Need amplifiers with the testicular fortitude to shine, not just that. These are speakers that run up to 32khz or so, those tweeters are unforgiving. Drop a component on there that might be harsh, its over and done...the person who made that comment (Echowars) clearly stated that he had pair as test speakers.
