infinity rs 4b opinions

I bought the crossovers from a guy that used to go by the moniker "loudspeakerchef" but now goes by "crossoverchef-com"- His website is currently gone-his Facebook page said he was hacked and had to change names and domains (and it is not working). I found him on Ebay again, here are his RS4b crossovers for $327 Pair (about $85 more than when I bought mine several years ago). He is not fast (took 4 months), but knows what he is doing:
thx, krautmaster

Small update since it has been two years since I replaced the crossovers. This summer I installed some 1/4" thick closed cell foam around the mid range & tweeters (like the foam on the RS3b) and that sweetened up the top end. I was listening to the classical station out of Santa Fe tonight and was in a state of sonic bliss for three hours...the old girls sound so good, I'm glad I never parted with them (my magnificent new to me Magnum Dynalab DT-5 tuner has a lot to do with the improved sound on FM). The remodel of the office with wood flooring and a thin throw rug seemed to pay sonic dividends too.

Nice friggin system krautmaster. I have a similar setup speaker wise, with Yamaha NS1000's along with Infinity CS3007's being pushed by one amp. Love it.
Cheers.

You should hear the old RS4b now that they are being driven by one of my Parasound A21+ amps - a whole new level above and beyond the Parasound 2250V2, which was pretty darn good, but now WOW!

The system now consists of a Parasound A21+ Amp, Parasound P6 pre-amp, Schiit Lokius tone control, Parasound T3 Tuner, Cambridge ACX35 CD player, Parasound JC3 Jr phono amp, Rega Planar 3- 50th anniversary edition with TTSPU, Infinity RS4b speakers, Klipsch SW-12 powered sub.

The system on the left is my old Onkyo M-508/ Parasound 200 Pre, Onkyo T-9090II tuner, & shares the CD player- playing through Monitor Audio Silver 100s (7th gen) and Polk HTS 10 sub.

Nice. I have a show room setup going on my 2nd floor were i can switch from amp to amp and from speakers to speakers. a little more vintage on my end but great sound and sick fun. Yamaha MX830 amp or Emotiva A300 with a NAD preamp pushing Focal Chorus 725's, Yamaha NS690II's, Infinity Beta 40's and Bang and Olufson M-70's. I love to mix and match. Sporting vintage Yamaha silver face CT and CA 810 integrated amp in my living room pushing the NS1000's and CS3007's. It's amazing how 70 vintage Yamaha watts can sound so good. Cheers

It is nice to have lots of toys to play with !

I have owned a pair of the RS 4b since they were brand new in 1986. I had to re-foam the woofers in 2004, replaced the vinyl covered fiberboard bases last year, and recently replaced the crossovers because the electrolytic caps went out of spec, making the bass was weak / muddy. With the new crossovers they sound better than ever. You need an amp with some grunt (high current) to make them sound their best- I'm currently running them with a 275 watt Parasound 2250 V2.

Can you advise where you purchased the crossover kit.
I’m in Australia
I'll try the link here but the Mods may pull it down (I hope not as it isn't linked to one particular auction, just his Ebay page). If they drop the link then you'll have to Google
crossoverchef-com then find his Ebay site.

Moderator edit: removed link to an eBay auction as per AK rules.

Auction links:
Any post that contains a link to any current eBay, CraigsList, or Audiogon auction must go in Dollars & Sense

Let's be sure our Infinity forum is a great example of member discussion and following AK rules. Our rule is "no links to auction sites (other than in Dollars & Sense)", so let's include the intent of the rule.

A post like "hey, look for seller name great-Infinity-speakers on eBay" is an excellent, useful piece of information... and we should all know how to search for sellers there.
