Is it Soda. Is it Pop ?

Here in the NW, it was always Pop when I was a kid. I met a guy who had just come back from a stint in the service and he called it Soda. I thought he was such a dweeb. Then I left home did my stint around the world and now call it a Soda. Pop seems like a stupid name now. Of course, we usually just say "Get me a Coke", then comes the always asked, "What kind?".

I live in Northern California. "Soda" and "Soda Pop" sounds normal to me. Plenty of people refer to it as "Coke", but they tend to actually drink Coke. You don't ever have people referring to 7-Up, for example, as "Coke". "Soda Pop" sounds normal but you NEVER hear it referred to simply as "Pop", that just sounds weird. Mostly people now tend to refer to their drink by it's brand name. At restaurants, etc, generic terms such as "Beverage" tend to be used. "Soda" and "Soda Pop" are actually beginning to sound antiquated.

I grew up in Indy, we always said "coke" for all flavors/brands. I didn't know any different till we started moving around the country.

We all say "pop" here at Casa Wildcat.

And Coke has become sort of the de-facto designation for cola. Since I prefer Pepsi, I am pleasantly surprised when a restaurant has it on tap. :D

OK I guess it's only SE Michigan who think "soda" is a tall glass of pop with a big scoop of ice cream floating in it and a straw and a long spoon. The first time I was at Yankee stadium the vendors were yelling "Hey hot dwahhhggg heeyyaaa" "Hey soda heeyyaa". And I'm thinking wow we never got sodas at Tiger Stadium.

Soda for me.

What's going on with that bright green business at the north end of Minnesota? If it's where I think it is, I get why they are the "different" county in Minnesota.

Where I grew up, "pop" was used for all soft drinks; Coke/Pepsi, root beer, Orange Crush, Sprite, etc.

Honestly, like most Canucks I'm more of a fan of the wobbly pop.

Went cold turkey on whatever you call it maybe six months back and can't say I miss it.

Yepper. Growing up in NC... We always called it a soft drink. We always laughed at people calling it soda or pop. Then we would ask them where they were from...........................................BOY.

In Minnesota myself and everyone I knew called it pop. i called plain unflavored carbonated water soda. like scotch with a splash of soda

Grew up just outside of Milwaukee and it was Pop. My wife from Ne. says Soda Pop.

BTW.
Growing up we called a water fountain a Bubbler.
