Mocked up the first one. Sounds very good. Having never had JBLs before I didn't realize they have A and B speakers. These are both A speakers. Got to work with what you have.

I guess they'll mirror each other. I noticed when I got them the serial numbers both ended in A so I had my suspicion.

They aren't A and B speakers. You have two of the later JBL Decade L36A's. I believe the first few years 74/75, they were just the JBL Decade L36's. The set I picked up is a mismatched set, one L36 and one L36A. My serial numbers are pretty far apart, with the later sn ending in an A.
So you have a matching set of the later version.

These sound wonderful! The only thing I can compare them to is my EV Interface Bs but much better bass and a bit fuller sound, crystal clear highs. Very nice!

Sadly I have to give them back to their owner. Also did a pair of EPI M100s for him, those are nice little bookshelfs. So all good.

So they went back to their owner yesterday. He was all smiles when he saw them, couldn't believe they were the same piles he brought me. Frankly, I really couldn't either! This was a fun project and seeing his reaction - that's what it's about for me.
Parts investment ended up just north of $300, including sand paper, stain, binding posts, surrounds, some wire, original connectors and the guts. Had some issues with the particle board around the replacement woofer where they screwed it in, so lots of wood glue and filler but that came out strong and worked well. desoldered the caps and they tested fine so left them for now and resoldered the connections. All in all, not a huge investment even adding labor. The cheapest originals on d'bay right now + shipping are in the ballpark of this build so I think he did fine. Plus the sound quality is very pleasing, it was hard to give them up
I do get to drive one of his Charger Daytonas now, so that's a bonus for me!
