JPW mystery speakers.......any ideas ?

I bought an old Pioneer stereo system from the local equivalent of Craigs List and the lovely old guy (just moved into a retirement home) asked me if I'd like his old speakers as well. He gave them to me gratis as the surrounds are completely rotted away.

The good thing is he still had all of the 'owners manuals' for his gear. However, for the JPW P1s there is a single sheet. Actually it reads 'PI' on the leaflet rather than P1 but they have the Vifa drivers (M21WG-09 woofer and D19TD-05 tweeter).

The leaflet gives directions on how to wire them correctly and then speaker placement and, at the end, has a small section titled 'Specification':

Sensitivity 98db at 1m pink noise input of 1 watt
Impedance 8 ohms nominal
Power Rating 70 watts continuous

After a lengthy time since this thread was initiated, the information enclosed is quite pertinent today. Thanks for the specs as I just picked up a pair of what I think are P1's today. I already had a pair of AP2's and that is why I obtained this pair. My only confusion and since it was a relatively long production run on the P1's is that the speaker connections on the back allow for bi-wiring/amping. The AP2's that I have also have two separate speaker connections - one for a passive connection and a separate bi-wire/amp connection.
I'm assuming (based on a previous post here) that my P1's are a much later production model due to the bi-wire capabilities. The JPW logo is bottom left on the cabinet below the grill cover. Except from that, they kind of all look the same.
The AP2's are boxy sort of square shape while the P1's are 17HX10WX9.25D
Does anybody have a P1 with dual speaker connections on the rear?

Today, I was given a pair of these, by a middle-aged couple who were 'very sad to let go of them'. On the way home, I stopped for a sandwich, and took the covers off. The foam surround on both speakers was completely blown!

I kept the nicely-made 'Target' stands to build a park bench with, and left the speakers in the layby, in case someone wanted some fridge magnets . . .

They were genuine people - Methodist Christians who didn't have space for them after moving to a small bungalow - I couldn't feel angry with them, just sad that for years they'd probably been listening to a 'HiFi' that sounded like a tin of nails falling down stairs. The chap was rather deaf, as I remember . . .

Are you mental ?

You left them in a lay by when you could have re foamed them for $50 or less ?

Old thread revival alert!!!
I posted here because a couple people here seemed to know a bit about these great little speakers, remind me a lot of my Spendor SP2's!
Also, I read about the badges changing shape and placement, but mine are different. little rectangle, but same placement as the round ones. Maybe a transitional model?
I just finished refoaming today, and these sound pretty amazing, very detailed and image extremely well!

My first pair of speakers were JPW bookshelfs, purchased from Richer Sounds in the UK around 1991. They served me very well for over a decade until I emigrated and sold all my gear.

This message is sincerely dedicated to those who have been WAITING 13 YEARS (since this thread was started in 2009) to find out more about JPW P1 speakers.

Here are some photos of my JPW P1 speakers in Malaysia.

I bought these two JPW P1 speakers + Marantz CD-5000 CD player + Marantz PM-47 amplifier (everything brand new) from an audio shop about 17 years ago. Total about US$475 if I remember correctly. Recently I checked the local online 2nd-hand websites and was surprised to find out that they almost didn't depreciate in value after a long 17 years.

Until last month, the whole system has been collecting dust in my living room most of the time. I hardly played them for the past 17 years. I didn't like the sound. It was dull and the bass less solid.

Only recently I found out that the dull sound was probably caused by poor positioning (wall-mounted near the ceiling) and opposite wiring of a speaker (black/red reversed).

I am now blaming myself for ignoring this gem for 17 years due to my stupidity (I am not an audiophile).

The drivers still look very new. No sign of deterioration at all. Currently I am placing them on my TV cabinet (I know. Everybody told me I shouldn't) and they sound so good already. I am very excited waiting for the wooden speaker stands, better quality 2RCA cables and banana plugs to arrive.
